  1. Hi all, Does anyone know what education departments are best know for critical theory? Are any departments teaching this at the undergrad level? Trying to see if there is much job opportunities in that area, and just familiarize myself with other departments.
  2. Hi all! So I was recently rejected (as I expected) from UPenn's Education, Culture, and Society PhD program. A few days ago, I got an email from the director of the ECS MS.Ed program saying that although they couldn't admit me to the PhD program, they would like to apply to the MS.Ed program because they think I would be a good fit there. Does anyone know anything about the MS.Ed program? I think it's really expensive and they don't have that much funding. I'm also wondering how easy it is for graduates to then be admitted into a PhD program at Penn. My sister knows some people who've been affiliated with Penn GSE and they said that Penn does sometimes favor applicants they know. If anyone has other info on this program I'd be very grateful!
  3. Oh so it's like an unofficial waitlist? I just don't get why they wouldn't notify me of being on a waitlist and then reject.
  4. Is anyone still waiting to hear from anywhere? I just haven't heard from Boston College, which I'm assuming is a rejection. I'm just kind of wondering why they haven't told me that yet ...
  5. Yes please! I just got waitlisted there, which tbh I'm really surprised by because I thought I would never have a shot there, but I would love to be able to attend! Hopefully I'm not at the bottom of that waitlist.
  6. Good to know! Thank you. I was hoping they hadn't made all their decisions yet.
  7. I haven't heard back from BC, I've just seen that a few people were accepted there on the results page.
  8. Ok so, I've seen people have been admitted to UC San Diego, Boston College, and USC. I'm guessing there's no way I got into San Diego, but should I give up on USC and Boston College as well?
  9. Does anyone know anything about U Buffalo’s Education, Culture, and Society PhD? I got in but no funding for first year students. Trying to determine how strong the program is. They also don’t have student profiles so I need to contact someone to see if they have a student I can talk to because there’s not enough info online about this program.
  10. Please post if you do! I wouldn't worry about calling Rutgers though - one of my mentors said it's a pretty normal thing to do and judging from some people's posts, I think it's okay.
  11. What do people think is going on with USC? I've just seen the two acceptances on the results page, and nothing else. Do you think they've sent out all their acceptances and that's it? Still haven't heard anything from any of the schools I applied to so that's kind of stressful. I just want to hear something!
  12. I'm going crazy here, especially because I keep getting generic recruitment emails from grad departments I didn't apply to. I'm guessing I probably didn't get into USC or Minnesota as I haven't heard anything yet :/ My only consolation is that it's like -40 in Minnesota right now.
  13. Thanks @Moods! I figured that this might be something I need to do ASAP, but didn't want to because the GRE particularly is so much up front. I guess I'll go ahead and get it over with though, it will probably help me relax about the whole thing anyway.
  14. Hey all, So as deadlines are approaching I wanted to get some advice about when to do things like order transcripts and GRE scores. I've gotten a bit overwhelmed to just trying to keep track of how each school wants materials to be submitted, and I don't want to realize I forgot something at the last minute. When should I order my transcripts? When should I have the GRE scores sent? Thanks!
  15. Thanks you guys for responding! I wasn't sure about retaking the GRE because I felt like the quant wasn't improving, but maybe if it improved this much it could get even better. I also really appreciate your honesty. Getting research opportunities where I am has been pretty difficult (most research being done in my area is medical). I've transcribed interviews for PhD students and done small qualitative projects, but nothing substantial. I'll keep working on GRE and trying to gain more experience! Thanks again.
