Campus Visits
havemybloodchild replied to allplaideverything's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I just got invited to BU's visit as a waitlisted student, with possibility of some small assistance for travel. I doubt the visit has anything at all to do with likelihood of getting in off the list. As for that last question- I don't think there's any way to know! All of my waitlists have been presented to me pretty hopefully, but at the end of the day, no one knows what students are going to decide regarding their offer. Good luck to you! -

I cried a lot, haha. But next month I’m throwing myself a bowling party, because I like drinking beer and throwing heavy shit around in really ugly shoes ? -

like I had a 162 verbal and a better (but still super shitty) quant score and got rejected from the same program. I’m sorry but I don’t think GRE scores do (or SHOULD) mean that much. also every program is different. -

I was also told on no uncertain terms to not accrue further debt for grad school. Not only because (I was told) going to school without getting professional experience was not cool, but also because the admissions sitch for PhDs AND the job market post PhD are such shit-you should not have more debt coming out of your program. Last year I was shut out of phd programs but got into the MA at Denver with 50% tuition remission...it was VERY hard to say no to my dream of grad school right after undergrad...but it was the right choice. Im really rooting for you. Also @Dogfish Head was generous enough to share with me some fully funded MA programs in the US, perhaps they would be willing to share those with you as well. Good luck! synopsis: Do not accrue any more debt! (Is my advice ?) -

Sorry Cardigan, but I know you have great things ahead of you, within the academy and without. @optimistic_nihilist I didn’t personally pick a fave beverage for a name because a) I didn’t get that anonymity memo but also b) it’s hard to tell a bunch of internet strangers just how much you like bourbon ? -

My application for UNL legit showed progress as being two steps before departmental review up until a couple days ago, even though I got notified of my acceptance by the DGS weeks ago ? You don’t know until you know, haha. -

That’s what a lot of my portals are like too ??♀️ -
A friend of mine doing post bac there was told that the decisions would go out at the end of this month. The person she spoke to believed it was their job to alert students to acceptances, and said that decisions and funding still had not been completely figured out so they had not alerted anyone. This was the same day the acceptances went up on the board, so, I really don’t know what the hell is going on, haha.

You’re probably right, I’ve been working in customer service too long, lol, I often believe the worst. But I mean today someone ordered a chef salad and was mad as hell when it came out that it wasn’t a sandwich soooooooo perhaps my cynicism isn’t entirely unreasonable ? -

No one seemed to mind but of course I wouldn’t phrase it as an obligation at all and people can omit whatever parts they want ??♀️ I also asked wayyyyy after application due dates so it’s not like I was increasing my potential to be competition.
