Okay, thanks for the heads up! According to the fellowship statistics from last year, acceptance rate is really high (~44%), but is there any data on how many alternates there usually are?
Have they put any kind of rollover plan in place or would it just be online? Because it kind of defeats the purpose of the program if you can't actually be in the country and do homestay, etc.
I applied to advanced Japanese. Last year I also felt the same as you do. Hopefully we both make it.

One thing I just realized, but I was kind of confused on saying my level of proficiency on the application. I forgot how it was worded, but I said my current level of Japanese is likely intermediate, since it is on the border of intermediate and advanced. Meaning I would want to go for advanced. Does difficulty affect chances of getting chosen?
