I'm assuming if you're going PsyD that you're interested in primarily clinical work. In that case, the minuscule difference in "prestige" between two programs won't be a big deal. You'll have access to the same prac sites, and both programs are highly respected in the area. You can't go wrong with either! I remember we talked about Post being your top choice - if you liked the program, go for it! Don't let ideas of "prestige" get into your head :)

That's really good advice! Thanks so much! :)

  2. I was really fortunate and got into 8/10 psyd programs that I applied to. I’ve narrowed it down to Ferkauf (Yeshiva) and LIU Post. I liked LIU a lot more, but from what I’ve heard, Ferkauf is considered more prestigious, but there was just something about the program that I didn’t like, but I can’t put my finger on it. I’d love to hear what you think! Thanks so much for your help with this!!

Sent my POI an email after interviewing to say thanks and reiterate that I love her lab.

    Got a note back:

    Dear dancedementia,
Thank you for taking the time to come and meet with us. It was a pleasure to speak with you.
    Thank you for your note,
    [POI name]

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!?!

I've received several emails like this too (from Psy.D. programs) and I don't know what to think about them!! And that makes me wonder about the schools that did not respond to my thank you emails!!

The email I received after submitting my applications said:

“Once we receive all required documentation, and your file is complete, our Admissions Committee will review your credentials. We will have two interview days; February 8, 2019 and February 11, 2019. Invitations to interview will be sent out by email toward the end of January”

I still haven’t heard anything since then. It seemed like a mass email, maybe it went to your spam mailbox? I’m hoping to hear soon to make plans if they are keeping those dates.

Ah, I looked back and found that email. I wish they would’ve told us further in advance though.

School: Yeshiva University (Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology)

Type: Clinical PsyD (NOT the School/Clinical Child PsyD)

    Date of invite: 01/24/2019

    Type of invite: Mass email

Interview date(s): 02/07/2019 (not sure if this is for everyone or just me)

I guess whining about this enough on GradCafe made it happen xD

Congratulations and good luck!! I'm assuming that I was rejected since I still haven't heard anything.

Have you heard from La Salle? Email says they are sending invites “toward the end of January”

I haven't heard anything from La Salle. It looks like last year, they didn't send out interviews until February 4th. Did they send you an email saying they'd send out invites later? I didn't even get that email.

Ugh. It seems like the Post emails are slowly trickling in. I haven't heard yet one way or another, fingers crossed. Do anyone know if they're going out in waves or if I just missed the boat?

Do you mean LIU Post? Their email said "At this time, all of our interview slots are filled."

Hiiii! I'll PM you about CHC specifically too since I just did their interview :)

In general they are assessing for "fit" in terms of their idea of what makes a good clinician. So expect questions about why their program, what are your views on mental health, what theory speaks to you, what kinds of populations you want to work with or believe are underserved, what kind of prac experiences do you want, and what you want to do in the future. There will be some research questions but they do want to weed out the folks who are all-in on research as that would not be a good fit. So emphasize that you want to have the well rounded experience of research, and clinical, and supervision, and teaching, and program design/eval, etc.

That is so extremely helpful!!! Thank you!!

  9. Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to begin interviewing for Psy.D. programs in a few weeks. I am a first time applicant, and I'm hoping that someone with more experience or knowledge of the process can tell me about what to expect. (how much of the day is the actual interview, what kinds of research questions to be prepared to answer, and how much to know about the faculty research--should all of their articles be read?)

Since Psy.D. interviews are not necessarily with faculty with similar interests, how much should we know about them/their research

    Thanks in advance!
