thank you for making the call and sharing this info! so helpful to know for sure. agreed - the very little effort it would take for schools to send timely rejections would make such a huge difference for applicants sitting in limbo. and yet...

@The Wordsworthian I agree with this so much. I've called Davis twice now trying to get a rejection but no one seems to be answering their phone. 

I just called UVA to ask if they had sent out all acceptance and waitlist notifications and they did.  Wish some of these schools would be more proactive about rejection notifications rather than stringing us along, especially considering how much $ it costs to apply.

Anyone here a Victorian/19th C British specialist? It seems that this year's acceptances have so far consistently been for other areas of specialization other than Victorian/19th C British. I'm wondering if last year was a big year for this particular area, and there just isn't much space for specialists working in this period this application season as a result. Granted, people might not be reporting their areas on the results page, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has noticed that.

Okay Rutgers...any time now... 2018 phone call acceptances happened between February 15-17th (Thursday-Saturday), and 2017 phone call acceptances happened February 18th-19th (Saturday-Sunday) so I'm curious to see if anything happens this weekend. Looks like Yale's phone calls are around then too, but aside from it being Yale, I don't think I was the best fit there. I was really excited about Rutgers as a department, so I'm sort of hoping it's a yes from them, but I won't be shocked if they pass on me. 
Anyone else have that one school they're getting anxious about?

Also, I got my rejection from UCSB right away so perhaps you’re waitlisted!

I got into UConn PhD (not on the board yet). I received the email about 6-7 hours ago. I don’t even know what I’m feeling. I’d completely accepted another shut-out and was talking myself into alternative plans that now it doesn’t seem real and I don’t think it has even hit me yet. 
For future reference, it is a 5 year offer to TA from Y1. Specific duties will be sent in the future. I’m an African-Americanist. If anyone wants info PM me. Also if anyone has info on UConn (like CoL, campus, etc.), please PM me, too.
Thank you to everyone who was supportive through this process. Other than my wife you’re the first people I’ve told.

Director of grad admissions in English at R1 University here: we couldn't give a flying eff about your GRE Q score. Major studies have shown that GRE scores are a poor predictor of who will succeed in graduate school. They have a weak predictive power about performance in the first year, and no predictive power beyond that. So we look at the verbal score with healthy skepticism, and nothing beyond that. I strongly suspect that leading programs will stop requiring the GRE at all for humanities Ph.D. programs.

not the most personalized, but not completely form either. Mine was like a form email with a couple little deliberate substitution / edits for my stats and interests and stuff. 

Same, just received my rejection e-mail.  Sad but feel relieved that they don't drag things along like a lot of the other programs I applied to.  This was the first notification I've heard from any of my schools and I appreciate Michigan's timeliness even though I'm disappointed to be rejected.

Welp, the fact that Michigan and UCSB are having movement today is a vomit inducing bit of news to wake up to! Kind of my last shots. Fingers crossed but steeling for the worst.

Hey y'all! First thing this morning I checked my inbox and was surprised to find an acceptance from U of Michigan! I posted the result. For those who applied be on the lookout as I guess acceptances are going out today. 

I hope I make it off Vanderbilt's wait list. I've always wanted to attend a school named after an evil millionaire. 

Anyone heard from Penn State MA? Waiting really is torture....

This week is the BIG one for me in terms of possible results.  I’m glad this site is back up to help get me through it, haha.

I know we all feel this and it's certainly no hot take but it sure is hard not to catastrophize after a couple rejections and projected rejections. 

yes! I’m not expecting to hear much until the end of the week or maybe even next, but prepping myself nonetheless for a very slow week spent smashing refresh on every app portal.

Anyone else ready for the week to start just in hopes of hearing more news?
