You need at least 100 public school hrs for Mass so just keep that in mind. Wherever you go to grad school will help you with that.

I wish I had done the GRE while it was still summer rather than doing it while taking classes. I would suggest taking this last month and really prepping for it.

have your letter writers send them to graduate.admission@cuw.edu  then concordia will attach them to your application

I applied to newer programs and I think that is why I have had the most success. I will be Concordia University - Wisconsin's first cohort, but I'm going to be a SLP thats all that matters. I only had a 3.4 GPA and 3.5 major GPA with 149 verbal 145 quant.

When I first entered the major I had a 2.5 GPA because I started in a major that I did not do well in. My advisor told me not to bother switching to CMD because I would never get into grad school. I didn't listen and went into the major anyways. I worked my ass off and brought my GPA up to a 3.4 and did not get less than a B+ in any CMD class (except neuro i only received a B- still upset lol) this was my first cycle applying. I have been accepted to 1 school and waitlisted at 3 schools so it can be done don't give up! I did a lot of internships while in the major and I think that really helped me stand out.

I had to take out a private loan and I would not do it again. The interest on it is honestly awful. My 14K loan is going to end up being a 30K loan. Totally sucks how expensive grad school is.

I would highly avoid this program unless it's absolutely your last choice. There's literally no reason to go across the country for a program that has never graduated a class before if you can go *anywhere* else. When I talked to one of the faculty on the phone, it was almost as if they were reading off cue cards about what they were supposed to sell the program on, but just like any new program it's going to have a ton of issues. The inexperience, exorbitant cost (I mean duh, for profit), and region should be enough to scare anyone away from a brand new program like this. Let them take the scraps of applicants who didn't get into another program. For the sake of your future, you should aim to get into any school that has already demonstrated their competency rather than gambling on this school. I got accepted here and declined it the moment I got into another program. It's too much of a gamble to come to this school and honestly would be worth taking another year to bolster an application rather than going to RM (especially so if you're going to uproot your entire family to do so).

I came from a similar background. I was originally a pharmacy major. My first semester I ended up getting  2.3 GPA before second grade option and 2.5 after. I have worked really hard in my classes and have done a lot better since finding CMD. I will graduate in May with a 3.4 GPA that is not super higher, but when coming from a 2.5 GPA that is huge leap. I also did a lot of shadowing and just jump on as many opportunities in the field as you can. I am applying this year with a 3.4 overall and a 3.5 major. Also a big thing I have found in the process is if you had to take Intro to Chemistry and intro to Biology most schools want at least a B in those classes so you may have to retake them.

Your worries are small. Always look at people struggling more than you and you will feel better. I made the intention to attend SLP grad school back in 2010. Its taken me 8 years on and off. I failed out of a grad program over seas. I took a a two year break and worked in Special Ed. I've just recently started applying again. I've lost count how many times I've applied.

SO your situation is much better than me. Further more I'm married and support a family. You have two years paid of education and free rent to think about what you want to do.

Do not give up! I was a pharmacy major my first semester. Ended my first semester with a 2.5 worked really hard in my classes once I found the right major (CMD) and I will be graduating in May with close to a 3.5 and I am applying to graduate school this year (Crossed fingers I get in) also there are some schools that look at your last 60 credits if speech is what you want to do gain experience in the field and keep going!! ?

    Hi!
What really helped me was looking at the locations more closely. If some schools are close enough that you can visit, definitely do that! Search the cities on grad cafe to see what others are saying about them. I found that in the end, I couldn't picture myself living in some of the cities the programs were in and I took them off of my list.

Hi! Personally, I took a year off as well! I am a SLP-Assistant in the schools and this is my 2nd year. I LOVE IT!! I decided to apply to one program that I've been eyeing for a while now since it's distance and will allow me the opportunity to continue to work while earning my masters degree. I didn't go straight to grad school for a few reasons: low GPA/GRE, financial, and uncertainty if I wanted to stay in the field. After gaining experience and talking with SLPs who have became mentors to me, I finally decided to apply! I'm nervous, but I'm sure everything is going to work out! It's subjective as the previous person said about what you want to do! You know yourself and what will be best for you! Best wishes to you and your endeavors!

I took a year off (actually, two) and I have no regrets about it! Most of my undergrad class applied to start grad school straight after graduating but I personally wanted to gain some experience, both to get additional credentials to help me when applying (which I'm doing now for 2019) and to actually have some real-world experience in a full-time job before getting a Masters degree. I've been a teaching assistant in Spain for the past two years, and for me it's been a great way to travel, get more experience with different cultures and languages, and get enough experience to actually feel ready for grad school. I think taking a gap year can be great, IF it's what you want to do. If you think you want to start grad school next year, then I honestly think it would be worthwhile to apply and just have a backup plan for what you can do in case you don't get in.
