  1. 2nd time applying. Awards Committee A 4.50/4.9 50/418 11.96%
  2. I believe all applicants are split into two committees. Your rank is within one of these committees. With the percent rank, the lower the better.
  3. I'd say it's pretty competitive, but still quite arbitrary. I got waitlisted for the Vanier last year and I only ranked 130/652 in CIHR with very positive comments.
  4. I have not heard anything today either. I am out on the West Coast and I applied last year. I was notified directly by CIHR about my rejection. To my knowledge, the rejections and offers were sent out at roughly the same times. I didn't notice any stark differences when it comes to finding out about results.
  5. I think it was something like 10AM PST.
  6. Mine still says "In Peer Review." We heard back on the 16th last year.
  7. Thank you so much! I was just really luck to be in the right place at the right time! All the best with your applications
  8. This is my first and last chance too...started Sept. 2016 and fast-tracked. I applied to CIHR. Here's to hoping we at least get that one...
  9. Same as me...for one organization I volunteered for 10 years straight and I still got such a low score!
  10. From previous years, it looks like there's a 3% decline rate. So chances are quite slim.
  11. Btw for future applicants. I got waitlisted, ranked 66/183. Scores: Academic excellence: 5.85, Research potential: 6.75, Leadership: 5.75. 12 publications (8 first author), 14 awards, 5 conference abstracts, 5 presentations.
  12. Congratulations!!! I did not get it unfortunately! Oh well...
  13. Super hard. Just burying myself in work and trying not to think about it.
  14. I agree with this! It's also really nice validation for how you're performing in academia.
  15. I agree. But I still have a feeling that they'll end up releasing them a few days after April 4th....
  16. Oh god now there's even more uncertainty ? I guess i'll be checking ResearchNet even more frequently!
  17. I feel like we should begin a Vanier 2019-2020 support group ?
  18. Congratulations!! That must've been a big relief!
  19. That's crazy! The good thing is that you're going to be set for your PhD project ? my boss told me he wanted me to apply in August so I started in August...needless to say, that was rough af... it seems pretty rare for students from the same department to be forwarded! You will both be judged individually though so I think you shouldn't worry too much about that!
  20. Oh geez I didn't know it was 3.1. From what I observed, we had to have an average greater than like 6.1 to be funded. Hmm I think as long as you show that you have the potential to be productive, it should be fine! For me, I find it hard to judge whether my ECs are good or not....plus my grades were horrible during junior undergrad, but then I killed my senior years and PhD and also won a bunch of awards. So who knows how they will judge that...
  21. That really sucks! Does your program offer a minimum funding package?
  22. Also, if I remember correctly from an information session by CIHR, every section is scored equally and then the average of the three is taken. Depending on that score, you are placed into three bins: 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and you’d want to be in the upper middle-top bin to get it. So feasibly if you kill leadership and academic potential, it could make up for academic excellence.
  23. Stay strong! ? just one more month. I hope you can get it too. The funny thing for me is as time passes, I get less and less confident. If I had known my boss wanted me to apply for Vanier, I would’ve prepared much better! Too bad this is my first and last try at this...
  24. So glad to know I’m not the only one! And yup, CIHR. Doesn’t seem like CIHR people are very active in this forum. Thanks for starting this thread btw! I’ve also looked back at the previous years’ threads and it looks like this entire thing is one big crapshoot...
  25. Going to be torture! Hard to not neurotically check ResearchNet ? Hoping for the best for everyone! Been trying to compare how my application holds up against previous Vanier winners. I don’t recommend it ?
