I just got back from a 12 day adventure through Europe. ( 10 days in Germany- two stopovers one in Lisbon, one in Copenhagen). I’m super glad I did it. I was initially nervous about dates with interviews but said to myself eff that I need to live my life. And I’m glad I did!
Ive been pretty chilled for the most part (mainly because I’m convinced I didn’t get in to the first 5 programs- maybe the 6th.) Sometimes I have a moment where I get mad- it’s horrible that they don’t send us any updates. Some of my earlier deadlines were late November, two months ago but this is it .... is what it is

May I say, although this website is really anxiety provoking (!), I'm so happy to share the craziness of it all with you all. My husband is an excellent listener but you all genuinely sympathize ?

Not every program does it and not every year. I had heard of it before applying and then I heard an adcomm faculty mention it this year. My quant was well below 50th percentile (my verbal and AWA were good). Honestly, so much of this process is chance. I've known people that had horrible application packages that got into programs and people with amazing credentials not get in. So much of it is variables that we as applicants have no control over.

I was in your shoes last year. I applied to 10 schools. I only got an invite to 1 and I got accepted there and love it. The rejections sting, but it happens. You'll end up in the right place. There are just so many qualified applicants and so few spots, it makes the process hard for everyone.

Worries: My training and the vast majority of my experiences are in a related field (special education) but not directly in the field I am applying to (school and clinical psych). I sometimes feel this could work in my favor and give me an edge but, most often than not, I feel worried that I will be overlooked. My GRE scores are solidly average (and I worked very hard for the meager scores I got!). I, too, am 30 and I have a lot pending on this decision in this stage of my life. I applied only to out of state programs in an effort to diversify my education as all my degrees as from the same university. I often worry that my application is not good enough and that all of the hard work I've put forth the last few years, including changing careers, would have been for nothing.
Excitement: I have quite a bit of experience in research (8 years total, the last 3 full-time) and all of my professional experience has been in my area of interest (autism). My husband has been extremely supportive and has graciously agreed to move wherever I am accepted. I had the opportunity to speak over the phone and exchange emails with some of the POIs, who showed interest in my experiences and potential. I am definitely (cautiously) hopeful!!

For the clinical programs you applied to- Are you applying for child clinical? I could see how your special ed experience could be an asset to these.
And don’t worry, I am doing the same... have you read my username LOL. I’ve checked my email at least a smooth 21 times today. Just “casually login in” to see absolutely nothing ?

I applied to 4 clinical psychology programs and 5 school psychology programs. I spent the last 3 years working in a research program involving both fields, but my training and the vast of my experience is in special education. I'm really nervous that my background would be looked at as not psychology-e enough! Have been religiously looking at my email and application status on the website, as well as these forums. Very anxious to say the least! ?

...Why was this thread not a thing?! LOL The main psychology thread has gotten so overwhelming with people across so many different areas. It’s too hard to keep up. I also enjoy reading the invites vs. the applicant threads separately.
All my fellow Clinically Psychology PhD/PsyD applicants, please feel free to keep this specific thread going with your thoughts, worries, comments, exciting and depressing stories, and all in between... We are all in this miserable hell of a ride together for at least another month or two lmao..  #canitbeoveralready
