    Hi all!

I was just offered an interview. I’m really nervous as it might be done today, because i’m travelling. Can anyone give me pointers on how theirs was and what kind of questions to expect. I’m nervous i’ll talk out of my a$$ due to lack of preparedness.

    Thank u!

Know why PREP and why that school specifically. Be able to talk about at least one research project thoroughly. Where did you get offered an interview?

Got rejected in the Yale NIH PREP but they did accept me for the Yale Bouchet Graduate School Bootcamp 2019! (whatever this is)

They said I get a fee waiver for their PhD apps next cycle so I'll take it!

Also got it! I feel like everyone who applied did.. but it still made me feel better!

I've heard back from both Tufts and Rochester, and I've got interviews with both this week. Still haven't heard anything from Michigan PREP, has anyone else?

Has tufts given you a time for your interview yet? And did they tell you who would be interviewing you?

Out of curiosity, what are your plans (addressing everyone) after graduation if you didn't get into PREP? I either haven't heard back from or mainly received rejections, I'm graduating in early June and trying to plan for other potential careers/programs to help me go to graduate school for a PhD. I know I'm applying to a PhD program in the fall but I don't know what else to do in the mean time.

Apply for a research tech/assistant position. But ask questions like: will I have my own project? What will I be doing day to day? Do techs receive authorship on papers? Those questions will give you an idea of how valuable the experience will be.

This is my issue, I am heavily invested in the community that I take part in, so I can really do either. That's was my problem with research, it feels disconnected from the people, even in the biomedical field. To me, it is too easy to just focus on your lab work and yes you produce usable info, but how are you making that information more understandable to the public, and in our case to the underrepresented communities which by far faces the most health disparities. Maybe this is why I haven't gotten any interviews because my commitment isn't to science, it is to the people who benefit from it. So to you future doctors, please attempt to reach out to communities and share your passion!

Sounds like you should be pursuing an MD not a PhD

I declined an interview offer from UChicago and UC Davis, in addition to withdrawing my applications from Harvard, Brown, and Tufts to accept an admissions offer for Johns Hopkins PREP!

My fingers are crossed for you all!

When did UChicago and Johns Hopkins get back to you?

    Hey!

I am currently awaiting answer on my Yale PREP application. I was wondering if I should email the professors I mentioned in my research interest? I was thinking of writing to them about my interest as a prospective student in their lab, attach a cover letter maybe, what do you guys think?

Also, does anyone know when Yale starts giving interviews?

I asked the director if this was appropriate for PREP and she did not recommend it.

  8. Would anyone be willing to privately share their personal statement or direct me somewhere that I could read some solid examples? I've already submitted all of my apps so it won't affect my competitiveness.. I just want to get an idea of how other people write theirs. I feel like mine is okay but I'm worried that I might be totally missing the point. Mostly I'm wondering how personal did you guys get? I feel like many of the prompts invited personal disclosure but I've read that admissions committees don't want to hear it because they think you're appealing to pity.

  9. Applied to Vanderbilt, Pitt, UT Austin, Rutgers, Georgetown, Brandeis, Tufts, Boston University, OHSU, Colorado - Denver, UNC BBSP, and Univ of Michigan

Really hoping UNC sends out another round of interview invites because they were my first choice!
