Nice!!! If you guys are applying (or have already applied) for the Diversity Preview Days, I hope we all get in and see each other there! ?

Deciding between University of Kansas, UChicago, and LSU at New Orleans. Does anyone live in any of these areas? If so do you mind sharing with me how does it feel to live there.

Yes, a lot of this information was poster earlier in the thread. 

I'm interviewing with one person on Thursday, Dr. Alcaide. And just received another email from Dr. Wortis to set up another on Monday next week. Dr. Wortis has been somewhat slow to respond so it could be they're just backed up.

Apply for a research tech/assistant position. But ask questions like: will I have my own project? What will I be doing day to day? Do techs receive authorship on papers? Those questions will give you an idea of how valuable the experience will be. 

I highly agree with neurooooo. I would also highly advise taking more than a few months to do research before applying to PhD programs considering your outcome with PREP programs.

Received an interview invitation from tufts (option to do in person, phone, skype). They had over 90 applications.

Interview from what school?

It sounds like you could greatly benefit from taking some time to gain a greater understanding of what exactly it is you want out of a career and what exactly it is you could see yourself doing with an advanced degree, whether that be a PhD, MD-PhD, or MD. 
You make "this information" more understandable to the public by publishing. Doing research isn't about just fiddling about in a lab doing experiments--it's about expanding the frontier of human knowledge. If you play your cards right, you will also be able to share this information outside of the context of scientific journals (e.g., review articles, Popular Science articles, TED Talks, etc.) that will allow for this information to be shared in a way that is more understandable to people that lack the technical knowledge we as life scientists have. 
All research, even basic science, is done with hope it will someday have an impact. If you are interested in research that is more translationally focused, it would probably be advantageous for you to look into public health graduate programs or translational research programs. Additionally, bear in mind that having an MD does not preclude you from doing research. Luckily, there is a place in research for people with a vast array of interests!

Unless you already have a substantial amount of research experience already, it would probably be more advantageous to utilize your gap year to gain research experience in some way.

I'm applying a bit later than everyone else to PREP/other post-bacc programs, but I've applied/am applying to: Boston University, Baylor, Case Western, University of Michigan, UC Santa Cruz, Tufts, University of Maryland, and Oregon Health & Science University (which has a neuroscience-based post-bacc program). I've been viewing this thread for a bit and figured I'd finally make an account and reply here.
Also, in reference to @neurooooo's question, I'm not sure but I believe that at least UChicago should be sending out more interview invites, considering their application isn't technically due until March 31 and they'll likely be receiving applications until then.

They both got to me on Friday. 

Unless you have some extenuating circumstance, I would just let the more personal part of your statement explain why exactly a PREP program would benefit you. I didn't have enough research experience, so I just made sure to explain that in the first paragraph of my essay. 

Update: Back on 2/21, I got an interview for UCD prep

So far I've been accepted into Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine PREP and I just accepted an interview offer from UC Davis PREP. Hoping to hear back from others in the coming weeks.
