Literally sobbing. Just accepted a PhD offer from UConn! I've wanted this since I was a little girl, and I never thought it would happen. Thanks GC, for your support and help!

I'm about to say yes to a program and I'm suddenly panicking. SEND HELP.

Just formally declined my waitlist spot at Rice — I am 99% sure that this is going to cause some movement, if someone out there is waiting.

On the waitlist for funding at Villanova. I don't know what it is about my application that screams 'waitlist me' but apparently all of the programs I applied to decided to come together and do that. *internally screams until April 15th*

If I were in this situation, I’d let school c know that I have another offer but am still more interested in their program. (If you haven’t done this already). Maybe something to mention when you reach out to ask if you could talk to students/ faculty to get a feel for the program? Good luck!! If anything, you love the program you have funding for so you’re in a pretty good position!

Your username made this a little...unsettling

Okay, the future is coming into focus.
Last week I declined York University's fully funded offer + fellowship (English).
Today I declined Purdue's fully funded offer + fellowship (American Studies).
I think the finality of the decision is what has been giving me trouble; the moment before deciding my life could go in multiple directions. By saying 'no' I'm giving up an alternate academic experience and a hypothetical life elsewhere.

Ugh, this is unfortunately exactly how I'm feeling. Like maybe I've learned more about the department from their silence. Makes me wary to actually inquire about other things. Good luck to you as well, sorry we're in this weird boat!

Was in a similar situation! The school I loved during application season has been so unresponsive (I’m waitlisted too) compared to other schools I’m waitlisted at that it’s made me question if I want to go. The other schools have welcomed, questions, calls, and visits, which have been so helpful and made me feel so welcome. Like one school said, it’s really a reflection of their department and how they operate if they aren’t responsive. How it starts is how it ends. Personally, I’m still trying to get in touch with mine bc is actually like to learn a bit about the dept.. but I also feel like maybe I’ve learned everything I need by this silence. Maybe reach out again and ask something specific? Good luck!

@alexisnj I think you’re still in the game until you’re rejected! Maybe you’re on an internal waitlist?

rr732 got a reaction from victoriansimpkins in How to have the least awkward campus visit possible
I did this at one school and felt it would’ve felt rude to try to participate. Also, at least in my situation, I hadn’t done the reading, so it would’ve been silly for me to slow the class down by asking questions. The prof gave me the book to read while the students broke out into groups, which was nice and we chatted for a min after. I think if they’re ok with you participating, they’ll tell you. Otherwise, default should be just to listen imo.

waiting for the official letter, but from Southern Illinois - Carbondale - "You have been admitted, and we plan to offer you a teaching position as a Graduate Assistant. I will send you the offer letter and details soon."
!!!!! This is where my favorite scholar (should I have a favorite scholar? what if she thinks i'm a dumbass? what if i'm actually a dumbass?) teaches and where one of my mentor/LOR writers earned their PhD!

seeing people who have already committed somewhere gives me a weird second-hand peace/life stability. like at least someone knows what the next 5ish years of their life are going to look like, even if it’s not me ?
