  1. This thread is for applicants of master's in counseling, social work, and anything related! I haven't seen anything similar on here, so I wanted to start this. What programs are you applying to? Have you gotten in anywhere? Interviews? Let's talk! I'm a first year grad student and would love to hear about everyone's application process!
  2. hi, when was the application due? For one of my programs, I turned it in Dec. 15, was invited Feb. 25th ish, and the interview was in mid-March. However, it is pretty late in the year if the due date has passed to be interviewed unless the due date is later.
  3. One of the programs I was accepted into requires us to accept or decline admission by March 25th, which I thought was early. It is a bit weird they would withhold imperative financial information until later. I don't know the program and I haven't been in this situation but if it is one of your top choices and you are willing to put yourself in an ambiguous situation, I'd go for it. Definitely do not accept or decline until the deadline. Hopefully someone else can give you better advice
  4. Hi all, just curious as to how everyone's interviews are going who've done one yet? What is the hardest question you were asked?

  9. Hi! There's only one program I'm applying to that requires a writing sample for a counseling program (masters). I don't know what to submit. Can someone help? Would a journal article review (7 pgs) be okay? I have one over children, culture, emotional socialization and gender memory. I've never heard of a counseling program requiring one so I need help. Thanks
  10. thanks! that makes a lot of sense. I appreciate this!
  11. Hello, I am finishing my bachelor's a year early and I have a late birthday, so I'm only 20 years old, and will be 20 during interviews. Do you think program directors of programs based around people (counseling/social work, etc.) would take my age as a negative or am I over thinking? Thanks
  12. None yet, will let you know. Thanks for getting this together, seems like no one is talking about masters in counseling programs.
  13. Most everyone has already said it, but yea research experience is gonna be your best chance. I don't think your undergraduate GPA will be a huge deal as long as you make it known that you are advanced in research/have good recommendations from research supervisors. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to poke your head around to find a research job at your uni, but definitely ask around with your profs/other research profs. Research internships over breaks (if you have time) or on the side would be super beneficial. Keep up the 4.0 GPA and get some research experience and I'm sure you'll do great at getting into a PHD program.
  14. Can someone tell me my chances of getting into a master's counseling program? I know it isn't crazy competitive but I'd like a current, rejected, accepted, or former counseling student to let me know the likelihood of getting in. LMK if you want school names to better help determine my fate, lol. Cumulative GPA: 3.2 Major (psychology) GPA: 3.6 GRE: (not great) Writing - 3.5 Quantitative - 146 Verbal - 150 Strong recommendation letters (3) Research Experience: Mentor at high schools and conduct research based on youth development with my various mentoring results Thanks
  15. Hello! I am looking for current/former/denied/accepted counseling students from these universities: University of South Carolina University of Utah Vanderbilt University University of Arkansas University of Vermont University of Texas at Tyler Regis University (Denver/Thornton) Texas Christian University Tarleton State University University of Texas at San Antonio I would like to know how long it took you to get accepted and what your GPA/GRE scores were? If you've been rejected from these programs, what were your GRE scores and GPA like? I'm waiting for a few schools to get back to me, so until then, I'm here on GradCafe. Aren't we all? Thanks.
