The senioritis is so real. I'm so antsy about doctoral program applications I'm noticing myself zoning out at internship, in class, at work..... Let it be over already!

Looking at my inbox this week

Just finished my interview with Florida Tech - pray for me everyone. Lord knows my sanity needs an official acceptance at this point ?

Sigh....I'm sorry but...how hard is it to send a rejection email....

I'm sad to hear this but I think some perspective is needed.
First, graduate school - especially PhD programs - is not the 'natural' next-step for psychology graduates. If you are a senior, you are competing with people with advanced degrees, work experience, or those with extra years off doing full-time research. These people have anywhere from 50% more to double your experience, knowledge, and expertise. Unless you are an absolute rock star and very lucky, not getting into a PhD program as a senior in college is the norm, not the exception. 
Based on my observation in mid-tier+ I/O programs, I would say that less than half of the incoming students are "straight out of undergraduate". 1/3 typically have masters in I/O, 1/3 will have some combination of relevant work experience and/or extra years doing research. On top of that, most reputable programs accept like 5~10% of applicants, and most of those applicants are usually top 10~15% of their class. So people that get in, are often literally one of the best undergraduates in their University. 
And how many decent Ph.D. I/O programs are there in the US? SIOP shows me 70 programs, and taking out some slightly sketch ones, there are maybe 40~50? At an average of 4 incoming students per class, thats 200 students. Thats smaller than my Intro to Psych class. 
So, if you really, truly want a PhD, take the gap year, get a masters, beef up your research, work hard. There is literally nothing to be ashamed of. One round of rejection is nothing compare to what you will face in grad school

My "make or break" week included ZERO communication from programs so I am not feeling too great about the process

I got a phone call from UCF today with the news that I have been accepted. I’m SOOO happy!!!! ??? 

I keep getting emails to apply to the Pratt Institute, lol. Too bad I'm awful at art.

Haha, for once I'm almost glad I don't have a partner.

I received an email today from UCF requesting a phone interview. It will be held later this week--wish me luck!! 
Not heard from any other schools yet though.

I hope this really happens instead of feeling left out with more nerve-wracking silence! Any news is better than no news to be able to plan and move on. ?

If they are going to have such a big mistake, they almost HAVE to admit you to the program haha. However, sending you some positive thoughts and hope you get some good news this week. 

I don't think I've seen one well dressed psychologist in my whole life LOL I think as long as you look presentable, the ideas and the words coming out of your mouth are more important than the type of blazer you're wearing

We can do it!! Thankfully I start school back up on Tuesday, which will hopefully be a nice distraction from all of this. 

I know they are different programs, but I applied to GaTech for I/O Psych and also haven't heard anything yet!
