I'm still in utter shock from my big surprise yesterday. Here is hoping everyone hears back from one of the places of their choosing!
I'd also like to add just this: I'm a community college graduate, grew up in a union working-class household, and attended a commuter state school that isn't at all prestigious. I worked incredibly hard but I also know that this was partially a numbers game. But to anyone who feels like places like Harvard are out of reach simply because you don't fit the traditional applicants "mold," screw that. Write a good application and hope for the best. Academia is in tough shape but that doesn't mean working-class people and those from non-traditional backgrounds don't have a place there - it is the opposite.

So the thing I love about this forum is that we are all getting really nervous but are also supportive of eachother

Okay, as I have read the above post, I am excited to announce that I have also received that email and I'm assuming that I have been accepted to Harvard!!

Just confirmed that Recruitment Weekend at UT Austin does entail an interview with my POI. Has anyone been through this interview process and know the types of questions I would be asked?

@historygeek, the best medicine tends to be laughter. I miss The Office so much and needed a little chuckle after the stressful morning of waking up to no emails from universities.

I'm going to trust those who know best and assume that this is indeed an interview, so, congrats! I was looking for information about what to ask during visits/interviews a few days ago, and found this thread to be helpful, post #7 has a very long list of potential questions you may want answered. Hopefully you'll find it helpful as well!
I don't think so, someone posted on the results page that they were admitted to JHU (in another program) and that their GRE status still says awaiting, so it should be fine.
About the interview thing, I can't speak to every school, but I've been looking into how U Penn goes about this because I saw there were a couple of interviews posted on the results page and I know that they notoriously interview everyone they are considering for admission. Looking at old threads, it seems that people have received interview requests quite far apart, so I'm not counting U Penn as an implied rejection for another week or so!
Also @fortsibut, I'm sorry to hear that, but glad to see you're remaining so positive. Fit really seems to be everything. I wish you the best for your other applications!

Or one could argue that the Cold War began during the First World War. And "domestic national politics" can refer to myriad events, trends, and dynamics beyond elective politics.
@ipavineri please be mindful of how you discuss "fit" when you're talking to professors. This season in particular, applicants are, IMO, turning the meaning of fit sideways.

I asked schools if I could come visit (with the exception of one that was less than an hour away, they invited me), so fully-paid campus visit sounds like a good indication that they are interested in you, even without a formal interview. I would prepare some basic questions about the program and have a small research pitch. My department chair advised me to have both an "elevator pitch" and a longer, 2-3 minute statement prepared so that I could respond in whichever manner seemed appropriate in a meeting. I have met with a couple POI and DGS individuals and everyone seemed to have different questions. I think they best responses to questions I've asked have been those regarding job placement of previous students and timelines within the program. Websites are often vague but faculty can give you more specifics on what they are looking for. Just my personal thoughts, I obviously am awaiting admissions decisions as well!

Hi all! This waiting period is an absolute nightmare so I had to share my good news.  I got my first acceptance today from UVA through an email from their DGS with my prospective advisors CC’ed! Honestly, I’m relieved and thrilled.

Just got word that I got into Duke! It's my first choice, and I'm so incredibly excited!! So if you see that admit on the results page, it's mine.
I'm a bit shy about sharing my focus/POI on here because anonymity etc, but if you've applied to Duke and you're curious, feel free to PM me!

20 to 6 is such a steep cut. What would prompt such a drastic slashing this year, as opposed to last, or as opposed to a gradual decline over several years?

Just thought I would jump in on the whole "nervously waiting" thing. I've applied to a good number of programs for medieval history--broadly, I'm hoping to study medieval monasticism next year--and somehow the stress levels have been slowly ratcheting up.

Hi - I just graduated from HDS last spring and I think you're fine. Based on what you describe here I think you have a solid chance. Best of luck!

I have not been particularly stressed out as to whether I'll be admitted or not (I've decided to be zen about that, because there's nothing I can do about it at this stage anyway, whatever is going to happen will happen regardless of whether I drive myself crazy about it or not), but I'm getting incredibly impatient to know what the future holds for me!
I'm sorry you're both so anxious, and I'll spare you the clichéd advice of trying to think about something else, but I hope you find some way to distract/occupy yourself in the coming weeks and find some peace of mind. Also, I wouldn't get too worried about not having heard anything yet, it is my understanding that most History programs don't send out decisions this early. That still leaves us in limbo, but at least we know it's nothing out of the ordinary. I'm hoping to have heard from most schools by mid-February, but that may be a little optimistic.

I think early to mid February is a realistic timeline based on the results search for most programs.
