  1. From TC:

Admissions is not involved in this program's interview process, as faculty reach out to applicants directly. Final decisions will be released in mid March, and faculty may reach out to schedule an interview anytime before final decisions are made. Interviews are usually conducted in mid February, but truly anything can happen until decisions are released. For this reason, please be sure to check your email regularly”

    Desperate for advice!

I have gotten an interview at one of my top schools. The PI called me to let me know they wanted me to come down for an interview and provided me with two options for interview weekends which I feel is rare (usually it is just one). I said I preferred the earlier date - I'll call it option 1, and she said that one is getting crowded so she will have to check. I chose that date because another top school of mine has interview days on the later date (option 2). Although I have not gotten an interview from this other school yet, I have heard that they have not yet sent out invites and there is still a chance I could hear from them and so I thought it would be best to avoid a potential conflict. The PI got back to me a day later and asked if there was any way I could come to the second option, and if not she understood, they are just trying to accommodate everyone. Feeling like she was still giving me an option, I replied and told her I was so sorry but I still had the conflict on my calendar and would greatly appreciate it if she could squeeze me in to the earlier date. She got back to me today and told me she is getting a lot of push back from the committee and if my conflict was firm, and to be honest either way.

I've gotten different feedback and am unsure what is best.

1)Be firm and tell her I can only do option 1

    2) reach out to my other top choice and see my status on my application, maybe that will give me insight

3)just give in to this first school and do the option 2 since this is a school I have heard back from and as of right now I have the greatest chance of getting in here compared to the other school I have not heard back from

It would be great to reached out to the other school to check your application- maybe even call to see if you can get an answer ASAP. However, I would absolutely prioritize the interview school.

Called. Was told interview dates are not finalized yet, but that they would approximately be around Feb 15. But also that interview dates may be for individual POIs rather than a department-wide day like most other programs.

I'm taking from this that there's still hope to be invited for an interview, since Feb 15 is a month away.

CU notifications should go out by Feb, based on their website. But was told by dpt coordinator that POIs are reviewing apps as of a few days ago.

Also haven't heard anything from Duke, am very interested in who's already extended invites.

I know you posted it a few days ago but I got a mass email today at 5:30pm from the director of the Clinical Psych PhD program inviting me to interview on one of two days - January 25th or February 1st.

Thanks guys! Super bummed about Fordham, but hoping CU will pull through. Best of luck y'all!

So I saw a post saying Rutgers will notify by the end of the month, has anyone heard anything from Adelphi, Stony Brook (cognitive science) or Queens College?

I also applied to LIU but with their deadline being yesterday I don’t expect to hear anything for a while.

Haven't heard specifically about Stony Brook (clinical, not cognitive, sorry), but I don't think they've sent out all their invites yet. I was late sending a part of my app in, and they reassured me not to stress.

Can the person who got a Skype interview with UPenn for clinical tell me if they happen to know if other disciplines have been reviewed and if so, when we will be hearing back? I applied for developmental.

And would that UPenn person be so kind as to send me their POI? Thank you!

Does anyone have examples of what you've responded/what you would respond when asked in an interview with a POI why you, personally, are the best candidate for the position?

This obviously varies a lot person-to-person, but I feel like by the time people reach interviews, the traits/experiences I have going for me will be pretty comparable to others', so I'm struggling to think of what I should use to differentiate myself.

First time applicant, so total amateur here, but my take on this would be to draw from my history and experience that I might have over someone else (i.e. the specific kind of lab I worked in, or the particular clinical population I'm already familiar with), as well as what gives me a new perspective in my approach (i.e. having a BA in something other than psychology, or professional work experience, etc etc).

Hope that's in any way helpful! I'll definitely be looking to see what others reply
