I think it's up to you how you want your advisor to be. I would personally not enjoy working with School B since there is a chance the students at the school were soft on the PI by just saying intense. But you know yourself more than anyone else.

I can’t help but reference the Yale drama from a couple of days ago.....
This response strongly sounds like “THEY ARE MY OFFERS [!!!!!!]” lmao ?
I personally (and basically every expert I work with in the field?) think it’s absolutely inappropriate and inconsiderate to hold on to more than 2 offers at any given time. It’s a jerk move, but you do you, boo!

Every grad student, post doc, and faculty member has told me not to make any decisions until I've gone on all my interviews/visit weekends and have full funding offers but strangers on the internet talked to "experts" who think it's rude so I guess I have to pick now ?
It makes no difference if you get off the waitlist today or in 2 weeks or in 1 month. Calm down.

Sounding like a mega keener isn't a bad thing, I think it's better than sounding uninterested. I'd just say to space it out and send it a few days after the interview. I write my emails fairly true to my personality, which occasionally means throwing in some colloquialisms i.e., "super interesting", "awesome [insert word]" to liven up otherwise dry emails and let my character come through in correspondence (otherwise I sound a bit too stiff).

Thanks for the advice! Great to know - I have a similar email style so that makes me feel better just being myself in my follow-up

I was in a similar boat - applied mainly to clinical programs, but had two counseling programs on my radar since I was a good research match with POIs. You might get a question about "why counseling psychology specifically", but otherwise the questions will be very similar - e.g. "why our program", "what are your research interests", etc.

Good to know! I saw on the results that last year invites didn’t go out til mid January, but I’m getting anxious. I’ll let you know when/if I hear, and good luck to you!

Haven't heard anything from UChicago yet - I applied through the Cognition division.

I got an email from the director, Skyped with him and then the next day my POI called me for an hour or so and formally invited me to the interview day! They said letters were to be sent out in the next week or so!

I didn't apply to the HDFS program but I just had skype interview for the Developmental Psych program on Saturday. I'm thinking that means formal invites will go out in the next week or so, so probably don't worry yet.

Ahhh every other dept has posted about UMD-CP except their clinical!
If someone sees this and /has/ been contacted about clinical, give a shout!

Hi all! Brand new to this site... and I don't know honestly if I'm glad to have found it haha since now I'm OBSESSED.
Anyway, I applied to 3 programs for a Pysch/Neuro PHD: U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Baylor, and UChicago. I have already gotten invites to U of I and Baylor! YAY!!! But Chicago, to this point, is my first choice, and there's been nothing but crickets.... Has anyone heard anything?
