So they finally got back to me and they basically told me they’re in the process of confirming everyone. So basically nothing really helpful

@IceCream & MatSci Okay, me neither!
Me neither as well, I sent them an email just double checking that I did every step and when we will get an official acceptance letter, hopefully they’ll reply soon and I’ll relay that info here.

Do any of you still have “confirmed pending contract review” as your university status. And if so how long did it take to change after you signed the offer link.

@Moods Ah so you reach out to the GEM rep at school, then they gave you a contract
I also did what @Moods did and I just sent them a quick email saying how excited I was for acceptance and if they were willing to sponsor me. From my perspective, most schools want to have gem scholars in their programs so they’re very willing to sponsor. Also, I think they just send gem an email confirming you got accepted with funding
-
@TITX no it’s not Columbia, I didn’t apply to their program
-
I GOT INTO AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL & they’re willing to sponsor me!!!!!!!!!!!
so I have a few questions about the package I got. So I was awarded a fellowship from the university, does that get compounded with gem? Does that mean I don’t have to TA? And also what’s like the average range for stipend awards (I think it said I got 36k/yr)

Hope y’all are doing well and I’m happy to see that some of you have still been getting company sponsorships, don’t loose hope!
On a side note does anyone know what attire you should wear to grad visitation day? And for those of you that have attended, do you know if you’ll have time to roam around the campus and meet some current students?

@Manifestin2010 which ivy sponsored you as a university fellow? I heard that one of the ivies I was accepted to doesn't sponsor university fellows though it was an outside source. Thanks for any help!
Wait which ivy doesn’t sponsor?

@Moods well thank you for such a thorough answer, it seems like a lot of this information is already on the packet they sent us.

Webinars on Fridays? How do you become a GEM select? I have been accepted by an employer and also have been accepted by a university (no university agreement yet, though?).
Sorry I meant to say ‘selected by an employer’ and for the webinars I got an email detailing that there would be one every Friday here’s the email:
The purpose of this email is to introduce you to me, Antonio Storey the Fellowship Administrator. My main focus is to walk you thru the fellowship application process and get you confirmed a GEM Fellow.
I would like invite you to a conference call held on Fridays 2pm - 3pm eastern standard timestarting February 1st.
No need to register for the call.
-
Also, for GEM select peeps have any of you attended the webinars on Fridays, I seem to always miss them.

So I got an email that I got 'Accepted by the department' and they have recommended my admission, does anyone know what this means?
Also, I wanted to thank everyone on this forum, it honestly is where I go to with any concerns and it has really helped to reduce my anxiety throughout this whole process.

Congrats! I too was invited for a Grad Visit Day but didn't hear if I was accepted first. After doing more digging and reaching out to the grad students in the department, this is all a good sign that you are pretty much "accepted." If you reach out to the professors you mentioned in your app they may have already pointed out that they scheduled a time to talk with you on the visit day and that you'd be a great fit for their lab (as was my case).
I spoke with grad students also and they said acceptance after visit days are normally 50%,.. or close to %100 (barring you aren't a weirdo or something)...
I know that is a weird range, but that's literally what a grad student from the department told me, hahahah!
#dontbeweirdThanks for the info, so did u end up getting accepted shortly after the event?
-
So I was just invited to “Grad Visit Day” for a school that I applied to, but have not heard anything from them of whether or not I got in. Does anyone know what this might be and/or have been invited to a similar event without being accepted.

@sirTintin @Moods I also sent them a similar email where I updated them on having been selected by (employer), and I got similar results. I would recommend to try to find who you have had correspondence with as most of you probably got fee waivers to apply to those schools. Some of them weren’t the designated GEM rep for that school, and here’s the email I sent them:
Dear (person),
I wanted to update my (department) application, as I have been recently selected as a GEM fellow in collaboration with (employer). If you require additional information about this fellowship, I can gladly provide you that.Thank you,
I’m so happy to see everyone succeed, Lets all get this bread!
-
Also I still haven’t heard from any grad school, does anyone know if the fellowship increases your chances? And if I should email each school and them to tell them.
-
Hey everyone I’m super excited to say I’ve been selected as a fellow. I didn’t get any correspondence or anything I just happened to check the gem portal and it said I was selected. I got a follow up email the next day. For those of you still waiting I was on “matched” till now, so don’t loose hope!

@Letsgethisbread same but with the whole grad school process and this included . What discourages me is that, like you, I've been matched since forever and my interests led me to list national labs as my employer choices which gives me imposter syndrome af cuz my objective stats aren't that great. Based off what the presenters were saying just now over 600 people were on the webinar and i counted a little over 100 GEM fellows from the 2018 page, you do the math . . What kinda ticked me off during the presentation was when the presenter said "Even if you are not selected, you will be part of the GEM family." wut? lol What does that entail? Mentorship? A small wad of cash? like wassup?? ykno? I could go on . . but I feel you
Well I am happy to hear that I am not alone on this boat. And I was thinking the same thing when they said there were 600 people logged on. Although I think some of those logged on might have been non-gem applicants. The one thing I am really happy about though has been all the application waivers we get. It really helped me make this process more financially feasible for me.
-
Is anyone else super discouraged about this process. I’ve been on “matched” since the beginning and I check the site pathologically every day.

I just got an email about a webinar to discuss the next steps and what is expected of us in our internships and schools.
