I am worried about the cost too. Especially as one of my options is a private school. If you’re willing to relocate for a few years, my professors have said SLPs in underserved, rural areas can make $80-90 thousand a year.

You definitely wouldn't be the only one bringing someone. Plus, you'll have another person there to help you form an opinion of the program!

I've been getting into minimalism lately because this is the perfect time in my life for an existential crisis.

I think people should stop insulting programs that they get rejected from, or get in to. If you get rejected and dis the school, it just comes off as desperate and immature. Even something like "accepted, waiting to hear back from better programs" come off as elitist, and can make someone feel like shit if that was their reach school. This might come off as overly sensitive, but the insecurity of grad school applicants is already sky high.

I currently attend UWEC for undergrad. I spoke with a professor today and she said that last year the notifications were sent out late February and that was late for them. I would expect mid-February. Don't expect anything from them in the next week or two as they are not done yet!
Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK

Exactly what I was going to say. It doesn't hurt to fill it out just in case. Some grad school scholarships look for financial need and FAFSA is how you'll prove that, especially since you won't have parent income included.

If you're self-funded or your school covers all your tuition and you have no need of loans then you might not need to fill one out at all. If you want financial aid (aka loans, because that's all they give grad students) then you should do it ASAP. Even if you don't know which school you're going to, there's a spot where you can input multiple schools, so you might as well send it to all of them. Even if you don't take out loans for tuition, you'll have to fill it out if you want a grad PLUS loan.
The nice thing about filling it out as a grad student is that you don't need your parents' information, so you might be eligible for a lot more aid, depending on income.

Thank you all so much. I will try to settle down and get my mind on other things. It should be easier when school starts. Best of luck to you all!

My biggest advice would to keep yourself busy! Like others mentioned this could be a new hobby, working out, hanging out with friends, etc. When you are busy you don't have time to think and worry about the what ifs of your application. Also give yourself a clap on the back! Applying for programs is not easy and neither is this process. Treat yourself! Get a massage, spa time, nails, etc!

Seconded on the hobby thing!  While I was waiting, I worked on scanning all of my grandmother's pictures from the 1940s and starting to build an album.  They're completely out of order and jammed together in a box, so it required a lot of attention, especially because I'm trying to build a coherent timeline of sorts.  Project still isn't done, but I did get my acceptance. ?  I also recommend spending as much time with supportive family and friends as you can, especially since grad school will be intense and you won't get the same time during it.
    Best of luck!

I feel this same way!!! It felt like the application cycle was a full-time gig. 0.o I’ve been able to enjoy my time with friends and family more. I’m catching up on new TV shows, keeping up with the news, and trying out new restaurants. Not sure where you are, but it’s blistering cold where I am, so it feels like I’m even more trapped in the waiting game.
Maybe pick up a new hobby? I recently taught myself how to crochet, and I have been knitting too. Creativity is key!
Best of luck, friend. We’re in this together!

Agreed it's all about selling yourself.  I've got excellent stats and I didn't get in the first couple times.... probably because I'm not really good at selling myself and I tend to be a little too uncertain and humble in my essays.  Other undergrad friends of mine had more 'average' stats and got in on the first try.
At the end of the day stats are boring numbers that don't tell the committee anything real about you.  The only way to actually stand out from the crowd is building a compelling narrative about yourself.  You've got so much going for you that I don't think you should have a hard time with that!  Rely on what isn't average about you, and the proven history of success that you clearly have.  You got this.

Thank you! I'm trying to study at least three times a week and I plan to take it over the summer. Right now I'm trying to do my best in my current undergrad classes. The stories are making me nervous about people only with 4.0s getting in.

The best advice that I got is to sell yourself well. Use your essays to your advantage and tell the schools what the scores can't. Talk about your specific experiences and what you learned. There is no guarantee that you'll get in; even if you have better scores. Focus on the essays, get them started early, and proofread. Have a few people read it with suggestions. Leave your essays and then come back to them to proofread some more. There is nothing worse than spelling mistakes, not answering the questions fully, and general mistakes.
As for the GRE, I scored better on the real test than practice tests. Use the practice tests to see where you have holes and study those areas. It's a critical thinking test, not a knowledge test, so focus on how to take the test because there are only so many vocab words you can memorize.

Hey all, I am nervously awaiting notifications for the Fall 19 cycle and am looking for self care tips. Though it's still early, I find myself on gradcafe results, on school websites, and generally being a nervous wreck daily through this process. What have you done to get your mind off things and practice good self care? Thank you in advance.
