I emailed Rutgers today and they told me I was on the waitlist. They only are taking 6-7 people and don't expect anyone to drop though so likely won't get picked up. Just FYI for anyone waiting.

Allow me to present a different take on the visit's cancellation. Many foreign admits, like myself, can't be present for some reason. It will be nice to have the chance to participate in that even though it would be online. I don't think that will reach any faculty, but they should tape these events to have something  that they can present to future foreign admin

I'm sorry to say this, but I'm claiming a Cornell admit.  Had the god awful GRE quant score, 152.  Fit matters, obviously.  Also, this process seems incredibly idiosyncratic, lol.  IR subfield.  Domestic student. Admit letter said they had 326 applicants.
 
*edits* I (will) have a respected grad degree, so I think that helps too.  Also a strong grad GPA and good research experience and LORs.  But, wow.  I didn't think a Cornell admit was possible with my GRE scores.    

Just want to put it out there that second cycles are not a big deal and can definitely work. Not getting into any programs this year is not the end of things, if a PhD is really what you want then doing a second cycle is absolutely no big deal. Last year i left the cycle with no funded offers, and this year i received a funded acceptance from my top choice.
I know that this isn't what ya'll want to hear right now, but just know that this is not the end!

Called Cornell today and was told to expect results to be released toward the end of the month. might be sooner.

VERY late to the UCLA admit party [that was a long 48 hours], but I'm claiming the Theory admit that was just posted. Hopefully I've been active enough on this forum to prove my non-trollery. [I waited until Wednesday so I could brace myself and also so I could open my email after Hebrew class, when I'd be feeling more positive no matter what.]
 
By the way, this has been a nearly three-year-long process, post-MA, and I hope to be able to post more about my 'lessons learned' after all decisions are in. Suffice it to say that for now I'm an odd mix of proud, humbled, and INCREDIBLY excited for the next series of adventures.
 
 

I got admitted to a top 5 school with a <3.4 GPA, but I had good research experience, pretty solid LoRs, and a good fit with faculty in the department. I think things like GPA and GRE are less important than people think they are sometimes.

It might be a bummer to tell you this at this point, but my college GPA is below 3.5 and I got admission from a top 20 school. I think the research fit was the most important thing in my case

That's me. I have a different family situation than most (kids and a spouse who wants to work in their field), so I applied to a good number. Additionally, I REALLY didn't think I'd get into many, so I wanted to apply broadly so as to have options in terms of cost of living, rank, etc.. My undergrad department also funds up to $500 in application fees for students and former students, so that helped a bit. 

Claiming Northwestern on 1/17 IR

Kind of confused why no one has claimed a Northwestern acceptance when the list says 7 people have been accepted ?

I can't help but suspect that Northwestern is done sending out acceptances.  ? The first acceptance on the list said they got the letter on the 17th.  The latest said they got it on the 28th.  That's a pretty big gap of time, and there are already 7 admits on the list (1 looks sketchy with a super low GRE though).  I don't want to give myself false hope, so I've half-resigned myself to rejection at this point. 

I've also become resentful towards London School of Economics and Political Science because of its name, haha.

Yes! We are back again this year Dwar. I was finishing grad school at Columbia last year and OBSESSED about getting in somewhere because I forgot what life was like without school and didn't know what else I could possibly do. Now, fortunately, I am making quite a bit of money, traveling for work, writing, and teaching back at Columbia. I would love to get into a program but feel equally satisfied with the direction life is going and am realizing that I can do a lot of things without a PhD that I thought I needed a PhD for... imagine that. Best of luck to everyone!

Last year I was rejected from all eight schools that I applied to. It was horrible. Good news, if that happens, it makes the second time around less stressful! I am nowhere near as obsessive this year as I was last year and it gave me time to make my application that much better. We still have a long ways to go - hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Honestly, I was fortunate enough to get an awesome collaboration going about two years ago with an American Prof. I've never met until last summer (when I came to present our research in APSA, Boston). This luckily ended up with a research grant on such an awesome project that I simply don't mind waiting for answers. I'm super busy! But I'd sure appreciate at least one acceptance... I truly only need one! (applied only to uni.s. that I'd love to be at)... The thought of another cycle is just disgusting!
