I agree with the post above! However, I'd definitely get a laminator+lamination sheets and velcro dots. My university clinic materials room didn't have those but if yours does have a laminator+the sheets I'd hold off for a bit. A clipboard that opens is also handy too!

I got a C in speech science and still got into programs but I also had mainly A's in my other CSD courses which balanced it out. However, I would consider retaking phonetics since the content matter is very important for speech-language pathology. However, if the C isn't impacting your GPA that much and your GRE scores and extracurriculars are strong I wouldn't bother retaking it but practice the material on your own time. I would also ask your academic advisor for their input because my undergraduate course required students to get a B to continue in the undergrad program.
I really wouldn't worry about what programs will think of you if you have 5 years of undergrad instead of 4. Everyone's academic journey is different and you can even make it sound like a pro in your personal statement by saying you were so dedicated to the field you wanted to take extra time to really learn the material.
But of course as others have mentioned I would look at the competitive level of grad programs such as on ASHA EdFind stats. I also encourage you to speak with your academic advisor before decided to take on two extra semesters of undergrad and retaking a class.

So I currently work at a school for my CF so from personal experience I can't answer that, but I do know the slp that previously had my position worked in the school and then once she was done moved out to California and now works in a hospital. It may be more difficult to get a medical cf but it's not impossible. It all just depends on what you are looking out of from a cfy experience. Traditionally I know it's easier to get medical settings such as snfs compared to hospitals unless you have that connection with a hospital because snfs, especially during COVID are more open to hiring cfs but in this case you may be more willing to jump into the deep end with less support because of productivity standards. You could take continuing education CEUS during your CF but they won't count towards your CEUS hours needed after you obtain your CCCs. I hope that makes sense. I also recommend shadowing medical slps if you can if your goal is a medical cf.

Is it true it's difficult to get a job as a medical SLP without getting a medical placement in grad school?

They've posted on a few forums talking about their grad school acceptances so I'm under the impression they are currently applying to grad school.
Additionally, there are many ways you can find people who bully others on this forum. The idea of "anonymity online" doesn't exactly exist and regardless of the fact I never said you aren't anonymous on here. I said imagine if the admissions committee saw the comment you made to put it into the perspective of how inappropriate that is. It's important to note that they were not asking a question or offering advice on this forum. They were putting OP down.
Regardless, nobody should be putting anyone down whether they are in school, going through the admissions process, or currently employed as a licensed SLP. The comments I made the other day still stand and I stand by them.

You don't have to belittle someone's negative experiences. Just because they aren't fond of a program that you like doesn't make their experiences any less. As a future SLP you should be more empathetic to another person's experience even if it doesn't coincide with what you believe. Imagine if the admissions committee saw you making such hurtful comments to another person.

I believe they've already graduated: @Covidslp stated, "Chapman offered me so many opportunities to get a wide range of experience to the best of their abilities."
Additionally, you can stay fairly anonymous on this forum if you choose to do so. Your name and personal information are not required to join, and TGC doesn't verify any information you provide. It's important to note that you can ask questions and offer advice on this forum anonymously, as that's part of the draw.
Regardless, you're right. We're all stressed, we don't need to be adding to any negative or repetitive thought patterns!
Sending good vibes to everyone. Can't wait until March!!!!!!

? How easy is it to sit behind a keyboard and anonymously tear someone down who is clearly overwhelmed and hurting? You must feel so great about yourself, congratulations on being a bully, just what our field needs! Another miserable SLP I see, I've met quite a few like you.

i will disagree with you and say that there are many reasons why this program jumped in rankings from 130 to 92 in less than two years. Chapman offered me so many opportunities to get a wide range of experience to the best of their abilities. They took care of me at my lowest of lows and celebrated my success. The biggest impact on your education that isn't just affecting you at the moment is Covid. You have to figure out how to adjust your lifestyle to best fit how you learn and get your education during these difficult times. Maybe you lack ability to advocate for yourself and seek classmates or professors that you connect with for support? You're not a kid and dont need to be babied. Graduate programs are still trying to figure out how to best serve their students and I am sorry you got the short end of the stick during these difficult times, but instead of coming on here and shaming this graduate program. Figure out how to get the most of your education during challenging times that we are currently in. and sprinkle a little bit of empathy and perspective while you're at it.

CHAPMAN's CSD program is such a great program and I would highly recommend it to people.

You don't have to double major but you should do the CSD degree if you can since you would need to do a post-bacc to cover the prerequisites needed for the grad programs you apply for. You could major in anything you want as long as you eventually take the prerequisites since some programs won't consider you and others will still admit you but require that you take them before the start of the program. I'm not sure if it'll be difficult getting into a program as long as you have a good GPA and GRE. But you don't need to double major at all I just did it because I like psychology.

This is just a word of warning to any applicants to stay away from Chapman University's graduate school program. As a current graduate student of this program, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this program. The lack of support or basic human empathy from certain members of the administration, lack of opportunities to support career goals, and lack of diversity has made my graduate experience a living hell. I do not have many regrets in life, but I do regret the amount of money (over $10,000 every trimester!!!), effort, time, and stress I have wasted in this program. In essence, please literally go anywhere else.

I got into 5 of 7 schools and wait listed to the other 2 with a 3.4 in the major so I actually think that's a pretty good GPA or at least good enough to get you into a decent amount of schools. I have a 3.6 overall but also had a ton of experiences and was a double major. But I really wouldn't beat yourself up over a 3.4...I don't know your chances for that particular school but don't lose hope on being removed from the waitlist yet. A lot of people are deferring admission because of covid which'll open up seats. I was accepted off the waitlist for 2 of my schools, SXU took me off a few weeks ago.
Apply to newer programs too if you can. Lewis University is running it's first cohort this coming year and it seems very promising. They also accepted several students with GPAs and GREs on the lower side! I do know of a lot of people who were waitlisted or even rejected to schools one year and get in the next. It really depends on the applicant pool. What gets you in one year might not the next and vise versa. I would keep building up relevant experiences and apply to schools who's deadlines are rolling or have been extended. Retaking the GRE doesn't hurt too!

I am so happy that you have had a great experience in your program OP! I am not sure if these programs are actually overrated though. I go to a top 10 program and can say that it is absolutely amazing. We have top researches as our professors, but they don't only focus on incorporating research. They really emphasize client and parent expectations when crafting our treatment plans. I also don't find my program harsh; all of the faculty are incredibly supportive, as are my fellow classmates. While I do agree that actual practice facilitates learning, tests are necessary, especially since we all have to take COMPS to become SLPs.
I think a lot of the information you are providing about these programs is based more on assumptions and doesn't match the actual experience of students who attend those programs.
Each program is too unique to really make these broad generalizations anyway  I hope this didn't come off as rude, I mean to only share my experience.

Not saying I agree or disagree with your comments. But how can you make this statement if you did not go to a top-rated school? Also what is wrong with focusing on research? The material you learned in class came from research. All practice is informed by research. Without top-ranked research schools leading the field in EBP, other clinical programs with professors like yours would become clueless. Remember, you are going to graduate school, earning an academic degree. Not professional school and professional degree.

My overall was higher than my CSD (stats in my signature) and you have a higher GRE than I do and I still got in more than half the schools I applied too! I had very similar experience as you. I would apply to schools within your stat range and apply out of state if you can.
