Well, I’m moving over to Reddit (even though most of the content is generated by bots these days). You should check out Poli Sci Rumors website next

Claiming a Yale rejection! Also got a generic email to check portal. Generic emails are the best. If you haven't gotten the email yet go log in obsessively until you're notified.

    Rejected from UPenn.
    <begin rant>
Had worked really hard on the app and it seemed like the best fit among all the schools I had applied to given my area interests and methods bent. So kind of disappointed but fortunately I have an acceptance from a "top 10" school in my sub-field, of which I honestly knew nothing about when I applied to; this whole process is so arbitrary I can't even. Still, each new rejection manages to make me feel more like a fraud who barely won by fluke; I guess I will have to work that much harder to prove myself otherwise. Good luck to those who are still waiting for a lifeline or those waiting to hear back from schools of their choice; hope you, unlike me, are better at not pegging your self worth to the marginal whims of tired, tenure-troubled admission committees.

I would advise you guys to both go to the schools that you've been accepted to this cycle. Unless there is a very specific reason why you either don't want to go to that specific school, or really want to go to a different one. Both UC-Davis and Wisconsin are amazing schools and will serve you well on your careers.
Plus, and this is the big thing, grad school admissions processes are always a crapshoot. There is really no guarantee that you'll get in somewhere different next cycle, or even somewhere at all.

Certainly better be! I do not have it in me for a 'results will be out last week of feb to early march'. I think I'd actually die. My soul would just give up, and leave my body behind.

I have to say, I was completely unprepared for how painful this process would be. When I was applying to Masters programs I just submitted the applications and forgot all about it until I got the decision emails. This has been something I worry about constantly. If I go for a jog and am able to forget about it for an hour, when I get home and remember my worries, my first thought is "oh that was so nice to forget for an hour."

Just called Georgetown and they've told me that decisions will be out by the end of the month.

Anyone else anxious about Georgetown? I haven't ENTIRELY abandoned hope, but my sense is that anyone who hasn't heard back by the end of next week (March 1st) has got to be a rejection, waitlist, or unfunded offer. They don't release rejections until VERY late (around March 30th) but looking back over past years it looks like good news comes in February and bad news in March (same as most programs, though not all).

Thanks for your kind words! and ya, I am trying to look at it not as a reflection of who I am or what kind of student I am, but honestly that got harder and harder as the rejections began to pile up. Grad school is still my dream so I plan on applying next cycle, I hope for better results.
And good luck with all of your applications! I wish you and everyone else on here the best of success, this has been a great resource, and one that I truly appreciated during the stressful application season. its also really opened up my naive eyes about the whole application process, and the tips and knowledge i've gained from here will go along way to improving my application for next time.

I wish there was a 'solidarity' response - I don't want to 'like' your post, because that sucks. As people have been saying, though, this forum is 100% self-selected - you're certainly not the only one in your position. The process is such a crap-shoot (hell, I'm still waiting to hear back from anywhere, so I could very well be joining you in a few weeks), and it doesn't reflect upon who you are or what you're going to do. This whole process is so brutal, and I wish you success in whatever direction you choose to go after this. At the very least, you've got closure and are released from the endless cycle of refreshing and worrying! It's not much, but it's something.

    Two things:
    1. This process is absolutely brutal. I don't know any person who would go through this and not have the very same feelings. It's one thing to understand on an intellectual level all the things we know about how admission decisions can be arbitrary, how lots of extremely impressive applicants get denied every year, etc. It's a whole other thing to get there emotionally. After all, we are pouring out our thoughts and ideas and shiniest accomplishments onto paper for the purpose of being judged. That's a really hard thing not to take personally.
    2. Something that has been helping me deal with rejections (in addition to all the stuff about it being arbitrary and what not) is that the people making these decisions are looking at a much reduced version of you. You can only glean so much from some stats and a personal statement. If you have racked up all the signifiers that told you you'd be a good fit for those schools, you were probably right and just got unlucky. Trust the sense of self you had when picking schools to apply to. I was really spiraling after getting two rejections in the same afternoon and then picked myself back up the next day thinking that it's a shame I wasn't accepted because I am going to be an awesome grad student and I'm sure they would love me if I was there. Can't say I always feel that way, but it's a start.

Are UCSD acceptances all out now? Anyone willing to claim a UCSD theory admit (only sub-field I don't see represented...)?
Heartfelt congratulations to everyone who received acceptances today! UNC, UCSD, Minnesota, UMass-Amherst....these are all fantastic schools and departments where anyone should feel really proud to attend.

As a general statement Re: withdrawing from schools, I don't think it's fair to be pressuring others into doing so because of "others on the waitlist." People don't have a responsibility to those on the waitlist. Applications cost a lot of money, and people are entitled to a decision from the schools to which they applied. There are people on the waitlist every year, and others get accepted, and that's just how it is. Trying to guilt others into withdrawing applications on behalf of people they don't know is, well, selfish in my opinion.
Also, rushing into a decision is almost always the wrong way to go. Patience, as they say, is a virtue - it can't hurt to wait to see all your options laid out.
This process isn't easy, especially if you've been allowed the privilege to agonize on the waitlist for the next couple months. But people should be able to make their decisions without feeling guilty for not withdrawing.

I also 100 percent agree. Not to sound like an ass, but you shouldn't jeopardize your future success to help other people get acceptances. Wait it out and see what other options you have. You're obviously a competitive applicant and shouldn't settle on the first acceptance in case you have other amazing options in store for you.
