I received a rejection from UT Austin's Sculpture Dept. today BUT I got an acceptance letter from University of Michigan! yay!!!
I'm still waiting to hear anything back from CMU but I'm assuming it's a rejection at this point

For anyone who hasn't heard a rejection or interview invitation from CMU, the graduate coordinator replied to me this morning saying that they will not have a final list until late March. So, keep hanging in there.

EXTREMELY poor taste bashing a schools' faculty on an internet forum after an interview regardless of how you perceived the interview to have gone. This could very well come back to haunt you. You have no idea what faculty might be lurking on these forums and some schools include current MFA students in the application review process, who might be active or lurking these forums as well.

In my 30s here too! Very encouraging to hear from others doing the same! Thank you!
Worries:
Rejection, making no real progress in life, except possibly starting the whole process over again.
Excitement:
The possibility of getting in and moving ahead in career/life, discovering the fully funded programs that are available, which is what encourages me to try in the first place, and learning that trying all of this in your 30s is actually a good thing by most accounts!!
Positive vibes and thoughts to everyone!

I can't tell how much I appreciated reading your reply! It was a tough decision... to get out of Finance. We feel there's so much at stake: steady job, a good income and, to be very honest, the status (unfortunately, I can't deny it played a role for me =x).
I'm glad we were able to get out and try something different. Should we be younger we wouldn't be so sure about it...

Worries: I’m past 29, got my undergrad degree in Chemical Engineering but worked in Finance for 5 years (related fields huh). Had a major burnout 3 months ago and finally decided to take matters into my own hands and “follow the dream”: move abroad and go back to academics. It’s the ultimate goal but occasionally I still wonder “am I too old?”, “is it worth to spend most of my savings on expensive tuitions?”...
Excitements: omg life is SO beautiful, bright and calm without my previous job! I can sleep, laugh, hang out with my friends. I was working my life away, literally. Already got 2 offers which makes me feel SO relieved (won’t need to go back to the old times) and excited!

At least this person is handling their rejection with a sense of humor. Too real.

Worries: First application cycle and I applied to the two most competitive schools in my field, and I was naive enough to think I might get in, in addition to a safer bet but also a more rigorous program. I visited the top one earlier in January for app research and it definitely put stars in my eyes, hoping now that I'll get in to work with some really fascinating artists who I align with really closely, but if I don't get an interview I feel like I definitely will be somewhat crushed at least for a while.
Excitement: I got into the safer bet and am excited to go there even if I don't get in anywhere else, and I'm excited that my life is about to go through a significant and much longed for change.
Overall, I think I am mostly hoping for this process to be over sooner rather than later. This is my first time going through this and I really don't understand how people can do this multiple years in row. It is emotionally exhausting. So exciting and ultimately maybe one of the most important things we will do for our careers, but definitely draining - and I'm terrible at compartmentalizing.

Check the portal for PAFA if you applied. I just randomly check and my status was updated to accepted with a scholarship offer.

Please do not feel bad about getting rejected from Northwestern, it has an acceptance rate of about 3%, given that last year there were 154 applicants and they only accepted six. They must be looking for very specific applicants if they have to be that selective. It is definitely one of the most competitive programs in the country. Don't loose hope, you'll end up where you need to be!

How are my fellow midwesterners doing today? I've just been replacing frostbite anxiety with grad school anxiety. Anyone else?
