Hi all - I've been MIA to deal with my GradCafe obsession and just now seeing questions about Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL).
I was invited for Interview Weekend which was early Feb but I couldn't attend due to conflict. A video and phone interview were arranged with POIs. I got an acceptance letter last week.

This was actually a legitimate clarification that was being made due to a seemingly genuine mix-up between the two in response to one of my posts. Thank you for clarifying before I could chime in, @apex45!

Hi, I’m sure you’re just trying to be helpful but that’s really patronizing. If I’ve spent money and time applying to a school, I know what school it actually is.

Seeing a few posts about international students - feel free to reach out should you have any questions regarding applying in the US (either this cycle or next) ???
Haven't heard back from JHU since my interview (International Health, Human Nutrition - anyone applied/heard back???), but I have accepted Harvard's admission offer and sent out emails informing the remaining schools of my decision. Wishing everyone waiting to hear back the very best!!!

Sure!
Undergrad: 3.4 from a top-3 liberal arts college; Biology major & Education minor
Grad: 3.8 for an MEd from a low-ranked state school; 4.0 for an MPH from Brown
Work experience: 5 years teaching middle & high school science, health, and engineering; no public health work experience
GRE: I don't remember the exact scores, but percentiles were 98% for Verbal, 57% for Quant, and 98% for Writing
Research: ~1 year, no pubs at time of application but ~5 mostly first author papers under review; experience writing R34 grant
LORs/SOP: I know everyone rates theirs as "really strong" but I honestly think these are what set me apart given my mediocre uGPA & quant GRE and lack of longterm research experience. My interests are pretty unique and specific, so I think fit has also played a major role in getting me interviews (& acceptances).

I’d be curious to hear what other people think, but my personal opinion is that it doesn’t mean much on an individual level. Part of the reason is that we apply to specific departments within schools, and there isn’t a ranking for that. Additionally, as we all know, it’s very much about research fit for PhD programs. However, with that said, I think it can give a broad overall sense of how the program is perceived to others, and probably the types of resources that the school has
In my case, I will likely turn down a highly ranked program (according to USN&WR) for a lower ranked one because of research and faculty fit.

Hey don't panic! I noticed that in the result page, acceptance to PHS program still keeps coming out. Also I'm not sure which schools you applied for, but it seems to me that those schools sent out their decision letters quite early, as I'm still waiting for decisions from a few schools that I applied for. So it's not too late and there's still hope! Good luck!!

At least for my cohort that began this year, 42 students entered for the PHS program across all 5 fields of study (Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Global Health and Population, and Nutrition). SBS had 8 students and Nutrition had 5...unsure about the other fields of study off the top of my head, but I know that Epi was the heaviest.

Thank you for sharing! I am applying the same track as you at Harvard, but your experience is def stronger than mine! You are well deserved and gave me motivation to work harder during phD. Congrats again!

How likely is an official offer of admission if I've gotten an 'unofficial' acceptance email from the Department Chair stating that they've "made a recommendation of [my] application for admission to the University's Graduate School" and that they wanted to "congratulate [me] a bit early on my accomplishment. You will receive a formal financial offer in February. More to come soon." ????

NutriEpiPhD reacted to Lycaon in Informal vs Formal acceptance
For the school I will be attending, I received an unofficial acceptance via email mid February and heard back from the Graduate School officially in the first week of March.
It's ok, you aren't alone in your paranoia. Before the department had even made a decision, I had had Skype conversations with a POI and the program director, many email exchanges that ended with comments along the lines of "I hope we can convince you to come here", etc, etc. None of that, nor the unofficial acceptance, was enough to convince me that the department/program wasn't just pulling my leg or killing time until the Graduate School decided to veto their decision and send me a list of all the reasons why I was unworthy (just to salt the wound). It turns out my paranoia was unfounded.
So my advice to you is, breathe. Relax. Waiting isn't easy, I know. But just trust that the department has gone to bat for you. Only EXTRAORDINARY circumstances would cause the Graduate School to deny you. So as long as you don't have any puppy-kicking, geriatric-harassing, paraplegic-tripping skeletons in your closet, you'll most likely be fine
