Whew! I'm focusing on graduating right now (from my MA, like two weeks left ahhhh!) and getting a living situation settled in Chapel Hill. After that I'm going to work my lifeguard job in my current city until my lease ends, then I'm moving back home for the summer to spend time with my family and relax a bit before moving across the country. I have a loooong reading list that I'm sure I'll be getting started on, and I've been in touch with my advisor for my new program. I'm excited to get started with everything, but also excited to take some time off with my family before the big move.

Anyone else frustrated by some of these schools still not having finished going through applications, yet their visit weekends are happening? No idea if I'm accepted or rejected at two places still working through applications, and their visits are fast approaching.

Congrats everyone ❤️ We did it!  I’m so glad to have been a part of this community, for all the support, and for all the joy in seeing folks’ dreams come true.
I just know in the future whenever I see some truly incredible thing happening in our field, I’m going to proudly be like hmmmm, I bet there’s a GCer behind that.

Removed myself from UT Austin's waitlist today. I doubt this will cause any movement, as I was #2 of (assuming) 2 on the waitlist for a spot in their DLL concentration.

Ah yes, the chaos of the 15th is upon us. I wish you luck in wherever you decide. I’m sure anywhere would be lucky to have you!

Thanks to everyone who has helped with advice, information, and just generally making this community the supportive place it is. I've been here for 3 years now and I'm glad to be moving on to the next stage finally.

Not yet. I'm waiting on an updated offer from them, and I'm still waiting on a decision from UVA. With everything as it currently stands, I'm leaning towards Hopkins, but we will see what the next 24 hours holds. But no matter what happens, it all feels pretty empty now. I see that you accepted Chapel Hill's offer; congratulations! 

I'm probably going to sign off on GradCafe for the foreseeable future! This place was incredibly helpful to me throughout this process, but I think I'm going to dedicate the rest of spring/summer to just reading, relaxing, and trying to prepare myself for the next 6+ years. (Also I should start learning French.)
I do plan to check back in periodically (plus I'm sure I'll have questions or see a discussion I'd like to chime in on), but if any future applicants look back through this thread and have questions about applications/programs/etc, feel free to PM me! Hopefully I will check in frequently enough to see it and respond. I'm not sure how helpful my advice may be, but I thought I'd put that offer out there. Over the past few months, I've become really upset with the admission process and the way it makes applicants question their worth as scholars... I know my ass was saved a few times by people who were kind enough to sit down and give me pointers, so I'm happy to do that as much as I can for anyone else. 
I'm really proud of the group we had here this year. I'm not sure if this is common or not, but I was pleasantly surprised by the support we gave each other, and the genuine happiness we felt for others success even in the midst of our own "failures" (yuck, that's definitely not the right word). I'm really hoping this is representative of graduate students on a larger scale, but I guess I'll have to wait until the fall to find out more about that. Thanks for everything guys!! I declined UT Austin for Comp Lit today. It's an incredible program in an amazing place, but unfortunately the stipend just wasn't enough to cover cost of living + my MA loan repayments (what a great idea that seemed at the time). I'd either have to take out another loan or be dependent on my partner for a few years to make it work - neither of which I want to do. Genuinely heartbroken as it's SUCH a fab offer, but hoping it creates some waitlist movement for someone here! Good luck pals, we're nearly there xxx

I accepted the University of Michigan's offer, PhD in American Culture. Feeling strangely ambivalent about it; it's a great program with tons of resources and I'm excited to begin the journey, but I do not like the location at all. Hoping to make the best of it as no offer had everything I was looking for.
Now to have a glass of wine. I'm relieved that this part of the process is over.

Accepted off the waitlist at UVA! I can hardly believe it, I was sure it wasn't going to happen.
If there any people who went to the visit, or who are current or ex students, please DM me! I'd like to ask some questions about the area and there's not really a lot of time to wait for responses through the regular channels.

USC waitlist closed, so I’ll be going to Duke in the Fall! Feels great to have finally made a decision!!
