Accepted to the Art Video program at Syracuse with a 60% scholarship! Pretty sure I’m gonna accept this offer :)

I was just about to post the same thing. I got a 60% scholarship too — congrats!!!! I’m still deciding between this and RISD. They’re very different programs, but I’m leaning towards RISD right now.

Interviewing with Syracuse art video this weekend!

Good luck! I just interviewed with Prof. Cooper. It’s a relaxed interview and the program is amazing ?

i know i won’t be able to any time soon, since i’m on the west coast until my finals end. instead i spent a lot of time looking over previous thesis books and course catalogues. definitely doesn’t have the same effect, but since the other school i was considering as much (ocad) wanted my decision by today, it is what it is.

I visited today!!!!! It’s awesome here (I can break it down in more descriptive words later when I’m home) plus the funding they’re providing helps so much.

Did you officially give your response?

Nope :( still waiting to hear from this program as well.

I asked weeks ago when we’ll be notified and I was told early March ? (which is now....) so hopefully this isn’t bad news. Do you know if they do interviews?

i got it in a separate email. i think i was only given one because i’m outside the us.

    i won’t worry yet then!

I didn’t receive anything in the mail, but I did get an official letter and financial package online yesterday

has anyone who’s been accepted received their physical letter in the mail? i received a tracking number, but it hasn’t changed status from “ready to ship,” and i’m not sure whether to worry or not

I was told it would take a week or so to arrive. Today is officially a full week since the email, so I’m not worried. Where’d you get a tracking number from?

  8. @sparky7184 I’m a domestic student. Did you reach out to the D+M department specifically or RISD admissions? Nothing is final yet because my email said to respond by mid-March to open slots up for other students. There’s still hope :) best thing to do is reach out the the specific department and wait it out.

  9. @Sophie K @Bol Are you worried about funding at all? I'm hoping the official letter gives me more options financially. I'm speaking with students for more information, but just wondering -- is the bulk of your work or what you envision your future work conceptual? The student work I've seen is a lot more conceptual than anything I've done. But the course descriptions sound so freaking perfect, so I'm just a bit torn.

Me too ! :D Congratulations to you and me!

Yesssss! I don’t hear back from two of my programs until late March to early April, so I’m concerned about the “reply by March 20” deadline ?

Did you get any financial aid info in the email? Mine said to wait for a letter...really hoping for some aid!

Did anyone receive acceptance from RISD Digital+Media department? I got informed during the interview that the department will get back in touch on February 20th which is today. and didn't get anything from the department yet.. so I'm getting nervous!

Just got an email a minute ago — I got into the D+M program!

I haven’t heard back either, but the day’s not over :)

As someone who lives in NY state, and has been to Syracuse a number of times, my opinion is that Syracuse is a mid-sized, fairly isolated, and very economically depressed city. The winters are long, and very snowy compared even to other areas in the state. The city itself is one reason I would be hesitant to go to the school. I bet the rent is relatively cheap though.

That’s good to know, thanks for the info!

Syracuse Studio Art and Department of Trans Media are different programs, with different selection committees. I have spoken with the Studio Art director and know that they are usually a mid-March response, but that this year they are trying to fast track the process, and get notifications to people by the end of February. They are currently reviewing applications. I can't speak to what's happening in the Trans Media department.

I went to visit the school last week and talk with everyone. The art program seems very interesting, and is spread across a few buildings on campus with ample facilities. It's a three-year program, and during that time you get to teach your own classes at the school (paid positions), not TA. This is a real advantage over other programs, imo.

That makes me really happy to hear. I applied with the Transmedia Department and heard similar praise from one of my teachers whose an alum. I know RISD let’s you teach your own class of your design too. Makes me nervous, but then again, it’s a valuable experience!

How did you like the Syracuse area?

Also applied to their Art Video program and am waiting to hear anything ?

I emailed the Transmedia Department and was told that notifications are sent out in early-March.

    Fingers crossed!
