Thanks! I'm wishing everyone in EE (and everyone else) luck with Vanier and admissions to international universities! Haha!

What scores did you get for Research and Relevant experience if you don't mind sharing. I just want to see the difference between us as I am just one above you and that was the cut.

Anyone that got a CGS in EE (committee 197) happen to be going to school outside of Canada and will be taking a PGS? Just me being wishful it seems i'm one below the cut-off.

You have a chance of getting upgraded. Last year I remember 2 or 3 Guys from ECE ended up getting it (were waitlisted) .. this means 2 to 3 guys ended up not continuing with NSERC for various reasons. if one of these 12 winners ended it getting vanier scholarship (which is very possible) you are automatically upgraded.

Your work exp counts toward your research ability and leadership.

And Academic Excellence check 3.5.1.1 page 13 ... it is under Academic Excellence

"3.5.1.1  Work  experience In some instances,  an  applicant  may  return to  an  institution  for  graduate studies  after obtaining  work  experience.  Members  should place an  increased  emphasis  on  relevant work  experience and  a  decreased  emphasis  on academic  record  in these  situations. The number  of  years  of  work  experience should be  factored  into  the  evaluation  of academic  excellence."

Anyone else on the alternate list willing to share their ranking?

I am ranked 31 in Electrical Engineering... not because I didn't personally get it but I believe the evaluators dont follow the guidelines... I have a full Masters (Canadian) GPA (Straight A+'s) and 8 years of experience in Canada... 2 IEEE Papers plus a conference and a book chapter. One of my papers have very high citations. I got 12/30 in Academic Excellence I dont know how this is justified... If you check the guidelines work experience counts towards Academic Excellence. So how 8 years of experience with Full GPA is 12/30?

  5. A friendly advice to all the folks here ... try to avoid applying independently... the chances are extremely slim ... just look at previous years results... I did it myself few years ago and I also didn't get it ... then a I had a second look and discovered this wasn't a good idea based on the successful independent numbers ... this is just ny opinion I could be wrong.

I asked my graduate scholarship office and was rejected. They said to expected something official from NSERC soon.

I am in Electrical too ... nothing from NSERC or school... should I assume rejection.. have any Electrical Students got an email?

What does the Twitterverse say? I don't Twitter at all.

And yes, I personally have accepted the fact that I did not get an award and am putting my hopes onto OGS/QEII

Few people mentioning about rejections or waitlist ... I found like 2 or 3 only.

I emailed today my school's graduate studies office (McGill) and they said that they got the results from NSERC on Friday but could not disclose it to students until we receive the result from NSERC ourselves. They said we should hear from NSERC "within the coming days"...

    This is torture.

Which department/committee if you dont mind telling us?

Same. I feel like if they did miss some emails, the more people let them know the faster they will deal with it. Could be wishful thinking though.

This whole emailing system is a mess ... they should announce the results on the portal where applicant can login and check it! I mean how hard it is to do such system!

That makes sense - looking at last year's discussion board people on the waitlist knew they were waitlisted.

If it's scenario 1, I think we're all getting antsy cause it's past noon and we expected them to be working this morning. If it's scenario 2.... would inundating them with emails help them realize there is an issue or just confuse and delay further?

Scenario #3 ... Results are by committee and some committees results are not finalized yet.

I am in Electrical and I didn't hear about a single applicants who heard back.

i think its either reject or accept just waitlisted. They need to wait evryone to accept the wards before moving the down the rank.

I disagree with you. People have sometime frame to accept... so they are not going to keep thousands pending their results.

I believe two scenarios are possible

1- People replying on the emails are not aware of the delay and they are replying with what was orginally intended... meaning announcing the results on Friday. Therefore, we could still hear back Today.

2- Something aweful happened to the servers resulting in the drop of tons of emails.
