  1. I received my offer of admission to Laurier advanced standing May start in early January with an acceptance date of the end of January. I then had until mid March to get copies of my transcripts to them or my offer would be retracted. Best of luck!
  2. I was accepted into Laurier’s May 2020 advanced MSW program. I obtained my BSW in 2011. I was working in the social service field prior to getting my BSW. I have about 15 years in the field. I currently work in child protection. When I spoke to the advisor at Laurier I was told most accepted applicants have on average 8-10 years experience in the social service field. This includes volunteer experience. Have a conversation with an advisor and then decide if applying is a good option for you.
  3. When I spoke to the advisor about the style they wanted the written answers in, I was told essay or paragraph format for each question need not matter. The structure of you writing was not the committee’s main interest more so the content of your responses. Also on previous boards there were individuals that said they wrote their responses in both formats and were accepted.
  4. I just heard from Laurier. I got accepted into the part time online program. Good luck to everyone else that applied.
  5. Hi everyone. I just completed my application to Laurier for May 2020 online MSW. I applied to York for advanced MSW full time for 2019 but was unsuccessful. I have over 11 years of work experience in the field and have worked full time for 8 years since obtaining my BSW. I have a low 80’s gpa. Also have a BA in psychology and a SSW diploma. I hope this time I’m successful because getting a masters will make it easier to become a supervisor down the road in my current job.
  6. Yes. I’m applying for a May 2020 start and was told this exact same thing. For each start date for the MSW program (which is three times a year) Laurier accepts 20 students which works out to be 60/year. I was also told to expect to begin hearing about acceptance 4 months before the start of the program. So for a January start date that would be September.
  7. I emailed the Grad Assistant at York and got the following update about the 1 year advance standing MSW. “We have been able to fill all our spots in FT Advanced standing MSW. I am just waiting for a short waitlist from the admission committee before I could refuse other files in the system...may be one more week.... Thank you for your patience.” Those of us still with no decision... haven’t even been waitlisted yet. Don’t know what would cause the committee to go to the waitlist once they have created it.
  8. Yes I am. But at this point I’m not holding out much hope. I had friends that were unsuccessful and told back in April. They were given suggestions on how to make their application more successful. I’m hoping the same is done for me given I made it to their “waitlist” if you would call the state we are in that.
  9. Just found this discussion thread and wanted to share info I learnt from reading all the posts pertaining to York’s MSW acceptances. March 14 - York sent the 1st wave of acceptances for advance standing (I believe full time and part time as no one was specific) with a March 28 reply by date April 2 - York sent the 1st wave of acceptances for full time 2 year with an April 16 relay by date April 5 - York sent the 1st wave of unsuccessfuls for advance standing full time and part time. Didn’t see any posts about 2 year full time No one has posted that York specifically told them they were on a “waitlist”. I applied only to the advance standing full time program and Myfile still says no decision yet - under consideration. I spoke to Pam in the SW graduate department yesterday and she said she is waiting for direction from the Director on the next batch of acceptances and unsuccessfuls. She does not know when she will get this information. It is discouraging to read that York has a reputation of not updating those individuals still waiting until June/July.
