sleepyslp2be got a reaction from Caitzilla in GRE Quant for the Math illiterate
HI! Just dropping in to give you some encouragement! I am someone who would certainly identify as "math illiterate" as well?. However, between my first GRE and my second GRE I raised my quant score by 5 points! I literally only studied Gregmat videos on YouTube and other test taking strategies. I didn't study any math "content" at all. I did the same for the verbal section and went up 6 points! I'm a firm believer that strategies of the GRE test can be learned, so don't sweat too much!

Good afternoon (depending on your time zone)!
    How are you all doing?
How are you occupying yourself during the agonizing wait for results? Tips for others?
What's something positive and awesome that has happened to you this week?

Actually, from what I've read both on this site and on ASHA, if you get a degree from a school that is a candidate for accreditation, even if they end up not getting accredited your degree still counts. Programs have to jump through some hoops and have a good plan to even get to candidacy status, so it's not like they're bad programs, just new, and ASHA understands that. It might be different, though, if you go to an accredited school that later loses accreditation, but I don't think that happens too often. Schools definitely get put on probation but are typically able to turn things around before they lose accreditation.

It sounds like you have a lot of well-rounded experience to support your applications. The only thing that might hold you back is your GPA. You have selected a wide variety of schools that differ in a lot of things (geographical location, size, cost, private/public, etc). So my question is, how did you narrow it down to this list?
I would re-evaluate every school on your list and pretend that that school is the only university that accepted you....would you be happy there? Hopefully that will help you narrow down your choices a little! By the way, I am an undergraduate at Concordia:) I can answer any questions about the school from a student perspective if you'd like. Good luck!

I spoke to the girl who goes there now and she said she really likes ETSU and the area.  She said it's a nice place, things within walking distance and everything you need is around.  The teachers she said are very approachable, friendly and get to know you on a personal level.  She said it's much different than her undergrad school, much quieter not so much of a party atmosphere and that a lot of girls in her cohort are married.  She said the program overall isn't bad, not completely stressful and overwhelming like i have heard some programs to be.  She said on the weekends she has time to relax, have a social life or whatever she wants to do.  She said Johnson City is very pretty, a lot of hiking trails and outdoorsy things to do as well. Class times are in the evenings like 530-830, but they are trying out morning classes recently and most girls like that better (8am-11am) then clinic til 5.  She said the clinics are all new and very nice.  She takes 15 credits a semester, she said thats standard, which i'm a little confused cause I thought the program was only 48 credits, but 15 times 4 semesters would be 60 cause summer session is only like two 1-credit courses or something so i'm not sure.  She walks to campus from her apartment, parking can be hard on campus.  She said the weather is great, i'm not sure where youre from, but she is from Michigan and i'm from NY so were used to cold weather!  Also an orientation was held in the summer a week before classes start to get to know your cohort and the program.  I think that was everything hope this helps!

You ranges for gpa and gre are almost identical to mine! Feel free to message me but like others have said I think that you need to work your strengths. Talk about that research experience in your letter of intent and experience. There is more to a future clinician than grades

Hi, not sure if this would be of any interest to you, but Nevada State has started a new SLP program this year. I have heard it may be easier to be admitted into newer programs so it might be worth taking a look!

@San Blas, sounds like you’ve had a rough day, and probably more than that. I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling.
I do wonder if this is the best outlet for that frustration. As aspiring SLPs, I think a lot of us come here for help and support with the education/licensing process. While I think it’s helpful to hear SLPs experiences, the tone and anger from your post feels unhelpful. There is a medical SLP forum on facebook that I think would be more suited for you to vent and get support. A lot of folks having hard days and asking critical ethical questions of their peers can be found there.
I’ve shadowed medical SLPs and while they face challenges, the purpose of their job is clear and they are largely respected by their co-workers. My point is there are better opportunities out there and I truly hope that you find a more fulfilling workplace or path. Best of luck!
