I just got into the University of Oklahoma! Woohoo! I am so excited. 

Got accepted from Boston College today!! I've never known relief like this before

I haven't heard a peep from UW-Madison either, but preparing myself for a rejection. The waitlisted candidates seem to have been informed already, plus the status of my application on their portal still reads 'submitted'.

Just popping up to say that this thread is absolutely necessary amid a wave of rejections (and implied ones). Hope you all the best and fingers crossed! These are hard times (even harder than the application season) indeed.

a thread of positivity!

In a few weeks, you'll find out where you're accepted, rejected or waitlisted. By now, I'm sure you're experiencing all sorts of highs and lows. This is a very stressful process. Sometimes, all you want is some news because you're starting to feel down about the process.

Big News? You're alive.
-There are currently seven billion people alive today and the Population Reference Bureau estimates that about 107 billion people have ever lived.  -Having just a few coins makes you richer than most people on Earth.
-You are unique and nobody in the entire world is like you are
-The opportunity to attend school is something many people don’t have. (Which makes having a college degree even greater!)
-Most people lack a bed of their own to sleep in
-Many people on earth lack access to clean water.
-Cell phones make talking to loved ones easy.
-You have friends that will always have your back. (And if you don't, message me. Let's talk. And if you do, let's talk anyways)
-You can enjoy pizza. Or Ice Cream.
-There are people in your life who love you more than you could ever know -The Internet, n'uff said?   But in all seriousness, try not to compare yourself to others. We have a tendency to look at how great the lives of other people are going without realizing the stresses they're hiding. No matter where you get in or don't get in, please be proud of yourselves. You've worked incredibly hard to get to where you are. An acceptance doesn't determine who you are and a rejection doesn't make you lesser than. It just means not this year. You might realize that your passions change over the course of a year. And you might discover those new interests are really interesting when you do reapply. You might discover some universities that previously rejected you might accept you the following year and viceversa.   Lastly, a word on rankings:
USNews rankings for English are determined by 14 percent of respondents who were department heads or director of graduate studies. As such, it's hard to take rankings those seriously when a lot of the rankings are based on "name brand". Most departments are only paying attention to a few select schools and placements may vary considerably across specific interests. Follow your heart when making a decision. Happiness is the number one thing that will make you succeed in a program and that happiness will translate to the quality of work you produce.

The wait is something else...

All this helplessness/hopelessness is sending me on some really bizarre and agonising existential trips, man! I mean, is this all that there is to my life? Is there any other way really? Why can’t we afford to not succeed? To not make it? 
I mean I obviously know that these acceptances/rejections are no reflection of who I am etc., but boy are they painful! 
There needs to be a sustained debate on these now global attacks on higher education. Why should the kids even take this up as a career if there’s no light at the end of the damn tunnel! 
wow! this can actually be a good place to vent. 

I'm in the same boat; still no answers from Madison on my end. I've heard talk that they sometimes send out their acceptances/waitlists/rejections in waves, but I'm not sure if that is the case or not.

As I said not long ago, I'm still eager on UW-Madison. Some people have posted results over the past few days. I have not heard anything yet nor is my portal changed. Is this an implied rejection? 

Y'all, I've reached the point where every time I get an email I almost have a heart attack. Can I just go to sleep and wake up when all the decisions have been released? 

Finally had my first acceptance dream of the cycle. I dreamed that I'd been admitted to UVA, but funded at $11,000/year (an amount that would lead me to seriously question if I could afford to take it at all, and well below their actual funding). Even with the funding thing, it was very disappointing to wake up and realize I'd imagined it, I didn't have any results back... and that today is the first day when I might reasonably expect schools to start getting back to me, so I know I'm going to be sitting and hitting refresh on my email all day. 

Just a heads up that some schools do call as well (often ahead of the official email). So, in short, we're now all reduced to being teenagers waiting by the phone for our crushes (or schools) to call. 

This process makes me feel as if I am back in undergrad, desperately wondering if my crush will ever text me back.

I've seen a lot of people posting about how they're worried because they haven't heard anything yet – of the 14 programs I applied to, only one usually notifies in January. The rest notify in February (spread throughout the entire month) and even in March. It's far too early for anyone to start panicking!

An interesting side effect of the application experience: I now can’t stand the weekends because no results are likely to come on the weekends. Saturdays are particularly annoying and on Sunday night I can’t wait for the new week to begin ?

Omg I just got accepted to Saint Louis with funding!!! This is the first response I've gotten amid a wave of silence and I still can't register that I'm actually in. I needed this so bad, I really hope it's not another decision acceptance dream because I would be utterly heartbroken.

Just got waitlisted at the University of Denver! First notice of the season, so very excited that it wasn't an immediate rejection!

@somethingwicked They sent out some rejections out at 11:30 EST, but it sounds like it's fairly typical for them to do notifications (accepts, rejects, and waitlists) in waves
