IvySWCu got a reaction from MSW.K in MSW Applications Fall 2020
So there is a link that the FASFA team provided me, it is connected to your application.
Step 1:
Email : cssw-admit@columbia.edu asking how you can submit a scholarship reconsideration form. I believe this is only likely to work if you have competing offers from other schools.
Step 2:
They provide you with a link to submit your appeal.
Step 3:
Answer this question: "Please provide a detailed explanation for requesting increased financial assistance"
Break down the amount you were offered from CU, how much excess you will need to take out in loans for tuition, books, cost of living, and any other related expense you have to cover while in grad school. If you are quitting a full time job, explain how you will lose your income and how you are planning to pay for the program and what you need help with. Explain any competing offers, and how you want to attend this program but would need "xxx" amount to finalize your decision. Be specific and honest on how much you are looking for if you know the amount it will take for you to commit to the program.
***Lastly I do not encourage submitting an appeal unless you are seriously considering attending the program, as this could effect other serious candidates from losing out on scholarship aid, there are others still waiting to hear back on their admissions decision.****
The process does take 1-2 weeks.
Step 4:
Attach your competing scholarship offer.

I applied the 12/1 deadline and was accepted last week (about 2 weeks after I was supposed to hear). I think they are super delayed so don't lose hope if you're not hearing!

Ahh. I know a lot of their decisions came out in lots of waves this year, so I would just sit tight and not freak out until the 3/15 deadline. Because they have to render a decision by then, unless it falls on a weekend or something. lol
I think they just have a huge applicant pool this year! Seems like 80% of this thread only applied there.

I heard back from BU this afternoon. Received a $31K scholarship off $70K tuition. I hadn't been seriously considering BU, but after scholarships, it's the lowest-tuition school on my list, with UChicago second (about a $10K difference).

Hey everyone! I have been reading this thread on and off for about a week and thought I'd finally join the convo. Let me introduce myself- my name is Jen, I'm in my early 30's and am changing careers...sort of. I'm finishing up my masters degree right now at Northwestern University, where I've been working on the Master of Public Policy and Administration with a focus in global health. My bachelors is a double major in psych and broad field social science from UWSP a long time ago (yeah, Wisco, represent! haha). Career wise, I plan on working as a clinical social worker with victims of trauma, torture, human rights violations, those who have been exposed to war and genocide environments etc. I'll basically be combining my policy masters with the MSW and working on both sides, but I'll be making clinical social work my main focus. Background wise, I've done a lot of international volunteer work with refugees and those in poverty, I travel abroad now a lot as a coach with an international program, and I also have a long background with marketing for social justice oriented non profits. I'm also a crisis counselor at Crisis Text Line, which I love and highly recommend doing if you want some remote counseling experience.
For those of you recently accepted to Columbia- Congrats! I actually was supposed to start their online MSW (two year) this January, and was going to juggle the rest of my Northwestern Masters alongside one or two Columbia courses, but after orientation in January I decided that was a horrible idea, and I declined my admission. I then applied to the University of Michigan for Fall 2020 (16 month program) and am really hoping to attend. I got my application in literally just before midnight on Feb. 1st, their priority deadline. It sounds like some of you have heard back from Michigan already who applied around Feb. 1st? I'm anxiously waiting.
Looking forward to connecting with everyone here!! Hopefully I'll hear from Michigan soon
Jen
