LisaOh got a reaction from Foctest in Fall 2020 PhD!
Rejected from Berkeley. Just heard from U Chicago. Rejected for AM/PhD program but recommended for AM program with scholarship.
I applied pretty late to Rutgers and haven't scheduled my interview. Congrats!

Those of you who have interviewed with Penn: do you mind please sharing the questions they asked and just how the overall experience was? Also any tips are welcome! Mine’s over video chat next week. Thank you!

LisaOh got a reaction from MCSW23 in MSW Applications Fall 2020
I am in the same boat. I had a long list that I was applying to, but I have recently ruled out a few. Now, I am nervous that I am applying to too few. (I should mention that I am applying to MSW/PhD programs, which are super competitive.) But the applications are so expensive and then sending GRE scores on top of that. Ultimately, I guess I am just nervous that I will not get in anywhere.

Just a heads up to everyone applying or accepted to UMB:
There are 2 students doing field placements where I currently volunteer. Yesterday, I talked to the first year about the field placement process. Turns out that you don't get to select your first field placement! They just give you one regardless of your interests. So it's likely that you'll spend you're entire first year in a field placement outside of your interests. It also sounded like the process in which they do this is a mess.
Just an fyi!

@Nai23 I would look into how much Yeshiva's program is theologically driven and just how much focus is on serving diverse populations. I'm not saying this as a knock against them. I just know that the student body as well as the university is very Jewish. If that is what you want, I would just research how it is viewed in the academic community and what alumni have said.

I am commenting because of this thought and I am going to be blunt - You don't stand a chance if you approach your applications with this defeated attitude.
It honestly seems to be a mystery why some students are chosen and not others - you have no idea what these people's references looked like, what the content of their essays was, or what the total package they presented to the applications committee looked like. What makes you unique? What would make you an ideal social worker? What is your passion and motivation for going into this field? You are more than a set of statistics, numbers, GPA and volunteer hours and so is every other applicant. If you are choosing to spend time and energy applying, please do so with a more confident approach. Ask yourself why you belong there and let that show in your application.
