On a related note, what did folks do with other interviews after receiving an offer at their top? (Because everyone on this thread is definitely capable and has/had interviews and acceptances, first or second or Xth try, now is the time. ❤️)
Did you decline the other interviews -- that was/is my inevitable next question to myself. It seems rude to not attend (say, if interview is in 2 days), but also potentially inconsiderate to attend if one knows a school isn't their top/having been accepted at their top choice school. Of course, there is always the possibility that one could change one's mind and I haven't signed any offer letters yet! What do others think?
I was accepted to my top choice a few days before my final interview and chose not to attend the interview. I feel as though it came across as unprofessional so close to the interview day and I regret giving the program that impression of me. However, it made more sense financially (and frankly travel stress-wise) not to attend. My POI at the school I was interviewing at had also reached out to tell me they were leaving the program a few weeks beforehand, so I did not feel as though the interview was going to lead to an acceptance (or at least be a good fit) at that point anyway.
My advisor (who accepts clinical doctoral students) said people drop out of interviews all the time and it's no big deal, so it likely wouldn't come off as inconsiderate (but I know different POIs can have different perspectives on this).

I received a text from a POI i applied to on 12/23 to have an informal phone interview and we scheduled for 12/26. Then he cancelled it and said he would reach out after Christmas to find a new date. I didn't hear anything from him and then reached out on 1/9 and said I was available next week, and he said he would reach out then. Now it's 2 more weeks later and I just sent another text asking when we might be able to connect. Is this normal? Am i handling this correctly? Insight?
Ahh that sounds nice and stressful! Do you know when the program's official interview date is? If it's still pretty far out I would just wait for him to get back in touch with you. If it's close... honestly I would still wait for him to reach back out. I think you've done everything you can to try and coordinate on your end, hopefully he's just swamped and will reach out soon/eventually.

I love this, thanks for writing your comment.
The one thing I worry about is that I already feel like I'm so behind. At 27, I expect I'm older than a lot of people on this forum because I already have a Master's degree (in experimental psych) and I will always wonder if I did the wrong thing by getting a degree I didn't want in the hopes that it would boost my chances in getting into a clinical psych program. I might have been wrong about that, it's certainly looking that way now. The thought of starting another Master's degree when I'm 28, almost 29, is super disheartening. But I can't take back any of my past decisions, it is what it is.
27 here going on 28! Currently finishing up my clinical masters and really hoping I can make this cycle happen because, like others have said, I'm hoping to have a family/get married in the next decade ideally haha. I think as you have seen, there are more than a few of us but I agree it definitely adds a layer of panic to the process. I don't really have any advice, just relating, I almost went the experimental route because I really needed to demonstrate research experience so I feel you on the indecision. I think at least you know you're not alone, and the important thing is you are pursuing something you love. Ik those feels like shallow words in the midst of all this, but I've met so many people our age who already completely hate their jobs, but are basically locked in for life or not interested in anything enough to pursue a specific career (like research/clinical work).

Hey all I was hoping for some advice. I got an interview offer from my top choice POI back in December, but today they emailed me to say that they had officially accepted a job at another institution so they would no longer (obviously) be taking students. They told me I was still welcome to interview with someone else at the program, but I'm wondering if this is worth it. To be honest, I really didn't feel like my research background fit well with any of the other labs so I feel a bit pessimistic about my admission chances- given that I wouldn't be a student any of these professors had even considered.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Should I go anyway? Let the interview invite go? Give up on the process entirely because I feel defeated and weary?

Has anyone heard from -
LSU
Mississippi State
University of Southern Mississippi
Texas Tech?
Hey I heard from MSU and USM mid-December, so I think most of the invites have gone out. USM's interview day isn't until February 14th (if you're talking clinical) though so there still might be time!

I’m thinking of pulling a “George” & just showing up on interview day at my #1 school & acting like I was invited.
Hold up this is a move.

I am driving from the Houston area to Hattiesburg MS on February 13th if anyone needs a ride from the surrounding airports or wants to road trip! Also if anyone is interviewing at Mississippi State on an alternate date than the 31st feel free to DM me, I will be driving up there sometime in the next few weeks and can definitely do an airport pick up if our dates overlap.

Hi all,
Does anyone (current students or previous applicants) have advice on paying for flights? With interview offers coming out 2 weeks before interview dates I am mentally weeping at the flight costs. Do people have tricks for affording these (like specific credit cards or anything)? I was wondering if signing up for a delta/united credit card and using the miles would be worthwhile or if I should just grit my teeth and dip way into my savings haha.

Could the person who got a preliminary interview from Alabama Tuscaloosa pm me their POI initials if you feel comfortable? I didn’t see a post on the thread or I would pm!

Is it Jan 31st? It's like some sort of conspiracy to not let us interview...
Right?! The 31st (and February 7th for that matter) seem to be the date of choice for all my programs.

Anyone heard from University of Alabama Psychology & Law concentration? Waiting to see some results from them and North Texas to no avail.
I just got a mass happy holidays email from the school which gave me a minor heart attack. But otherwise no. Definitely interested to know if anyone else has heard, but it looks like last year the earliest anyone did was the 20th, and more around the 27th.

This is my first year applying, is there a certain time of day when invites are more likely to go out?
I haven't gotten the impression that there is a specific time, but the formal invites I have gotten so far have all come out in the afternoon, and all (2 lol) requests for an informal phone call have come in after 9pm weirdly enough. But that said I have definitely not heard from every school and I would guess it's dependent on when the department meets to discuss applications and when the PI has time to email/call.
So basically obsessively check your email every hour has been my unhealthy motto ?♀️

I saw January 24, 2020 for Alabama (Psych and Law). Who did you choose for your POIs? Best of luck!
Yeah I definitely should have checked the website for before posting haha. JC and LK, but I'm not very optimistic about getting an interview. Would be awesome though! Who are you PIs (feel free to PM if you'd rather share that way)?

Bama has their interviews on January 24th for the psyc/law concentration this year according to their website. I just received an email yesterday from them that the graduate school had forwarded my application to the department, which was surprising considering their earlier deadline. My guess is they wait until finals are over with and everyone can focus. No idea about SHSU.
Haha thanks and wow I should check the websites before I post here! I was surprised because they emailed me to tell me my application had been sent to the department for review 2 days before the application deadline. But since I haven't heard anything since I'm guessing that's not a good sign.

Does anyone know when Alabama (Psych/Law) and Sam Houston had their interview dates last year? It looks like they aren't on the teamup link.

Me too! Guessing your PI is AB considering your forensic focus, we have almost a perfect school overlap haha. Do you mind me asking who your PIs are for U Alabama and Sam Houston? I can PM you too if you'd rather that.

Hi, sorry if this question has already been asked somewhere else in the thread, but this is my first time with preliminary interviews (via phone or skype). Is it typical to get an in-person interview after or is it more of another weeding out procedure (like 20 phone interviews, 3 invited to in-person interview)?
