I heard from Maryland Human Development at Jan 2. Their recruitment days are Feb 6-7, and they invite 17 people. Not sure if all the invitations have been sent out.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about every day. Sometimes going up, sometime just down. You're not alone??

Question: Will you guys bring a carry-on luggage, besides a backpack? I'll travel from a pretty cold area (Toronto) to California. Would it be a good idea to put my suits and shoes in the luggage. And when I arrive, I can change clothes?

I think you should ask your POI. At least know if there's still opportunity.

I just contacted my POI in UCR because I saw the UCR acceptance?. She said only a small portion of admission has been sent. Next week there will be more, don't lose hope!!

Is it recommended to briefly contact your POI if you received your official interview invitation and there is so much time left until the actual visit?
I received one of my invitations right before Christmas and the interview weekend is at the end of Feb. I did have email exchanges and a phone call with POI before submitting my application but didn't do preliminary interview. And now I am invited and thankful, I am wondering if I should send her a quick/generic email (ie i am v excited for the interview opportunity and look forward to visiting). Do you guys think it is extra?
I also want to avoid the slightest chance of appearing indifferent by having no contact for like 3 months (between that unofficial contact and interview weekend).
I don't think it's extra. For every official invitation I got, I would send a thank-you email, just in general. But you don't need to accept it immediately, if you have better choice that might overlap with this one

Actually I think that age 19 is an advantage. You're so young and you did really well in college. In my opinion, that means you have tremendous potential to succeed in college. The only concern is that I think you can add several not so fancy school . Also, I study in U of T currently. In general, U of T hasv ery limited funding for non-canadians

Does anyone know when New York University's in-person interview is?

I have been told that it is bad form to decline a previously accepted interview. Remember that unless you applied to a very diverse range of programs, that the PI who invited you is or will soon become someone in your field.
I have gone with a first-come, first-accepted policy due to multiple overlapping interview dates and little pre-interview differentiation in ranking of programs/mentors. (I really want to suss out fit in person.). I don't think it can hurt to wait until 1/10, but remember that if you do get an offer from the other school, you can let them know that your travel schedule cannot accommodate that date and ask if it is possible to do an alternative interview, either in person or on skype.
I've had good success with rescheduling and found programs to be really understanding and accommodating. I have only heard of one case of someone having an interview offer rescinded after asking for an alternative date (and this occurred years ago).
I already accepted interview (confirmed with POI) from my lower choice at the early of December, but I just got the interview invite from my top choice. And they're on the same day!! Could you please tell me how should I email POI from the first school? I really do not want to leave a bad impression....Thank you so much!
