Just received my rejection from Manitoba after interviewing in February. Congrats to everyone who got in! Looking forward to attending Windsor in the fall

Side note- it’s taken me three tries to get in! If it doesn’t work out for you the first time and you know that this is the field for you, please don’t give up!

Update: just received a rejection from Ryerson ...the applicant who received the first offer from my POI accepted so I'm no longer on the waitlist. A little disappointed but also glad to have found out sooner rather than later.
I'm still waitlisted at one other school, but it's looking like I'm probably not getting in anywhere this year. I've started to accept it and I have a semi-plan for next year, but I'm mostly just dreading having to go through this horrible application process all over again ?

I'm in the same boat as you. It's a bitter pill to swallow and tbh I don't know if I will apply again next year. It just feels so pointless ?
Edit: sorry to hear you got rejected as well, it fucking sucks

highly considering writing a strongly worded letter to CPA because this application process is not standardized when it should be for such a competitive program and is so ridiculous

anyone else slowly losing all hope??
At this point it seems like I've been waitlisted at all the schools I interviewed at (one actually told me I've been waitlisted and the other two I'm assuming since others have heard back and I haven't). I know there's still a chance, but I'm definitely feeling a bit disheartened.... I'm struggling a bit with the personal nature of the decisions - I know there's a lot of factors that go into it, but when a PI and/or committee is deciding between multiple students (especially for clinical), obviously there's a lot of personal factors that go into consideration.. anyone else struggling with this?

Not sure if it helps any, but a number of years ago I applied for a MEd in Counselling Psychology, and I thought I’d get in for sure.  However, that rejection happened so long ago that when I joined this online discussion here, I actually forgot I ever applied anywhere before or was ever rejected from anywhere! ?
Anyways, during the year I applied to start a counselling program, not only was I rejected, but I didn’t even get an interview.  I was shocked!  After asking the committee about the rejection and reasons for it, they suggested I needed a stronger psych background (as I had a BFA and BEd at the time and only a handful of psychology courses).  That rejection turned out to be so great in so many ways, though I didn’t realize it at the time, and I was so crushed at first.
Years later, I realized that I didn’t want to be a counsellor after all, and school psychology or a related field would be a much better fit.  I could’ve ended up with a masters in a field I didn’t even want to work in!  The rejection also led me to quit my full-time teaching job and go back to school to get my BA in Honours Psychology.  I met so many amazing people during my studies in psychology, and I had the most amazing experiences that I otherwise wouldn’t have had if I had originally been accepted to that counselling program.
I know being waitlisted may seem upsetting in the moment, but as your life progresses, I encourage you to try and see all the wonderful doors that have been opened to you because of certain things that have or have not happened.  So perhaps think of it this way...as one waitlist or rejection happens, one door opens.

you took the words right out of my mouth. I have been waitlisted at 3 schools and I am having such a hard time with it and am also losing hope. I want to believe I will still get some offers but I really don't know if that is likely or not.

Got an email at 3:57 p.m. to check my grad portal for UAlberta.  Please confirm I'm not dreaming!?!  I got accepted into UAlberta's SCCP MEd program!!!!!  I'm SO happy!  I've been working toward this goal for a long time.  This is the happiest day of my life!!!!!  Though, just last night I realized I had an error in my statement of intent.  I somehow said I wanted to work and live in the field of SCCP; I had a good laugh over it.  I do think, to some extent, academics "live" in their fields anyways.  I think I will tour the UAlberta campus before accepting just to really, really make sure that's where I want to be (especially because I'm either going to have rent or sell my house in Calgary now), but I plan to release my UCalgary MSc SACP offer in a week or two.

Hi all! I've been creeping on grad cafe for a few years now, but this is my first time posting.
I've noticed that this 2020 thread is unusually quiet (especially compared to the 2019 thread, which I've been referring to for information instead of this one!). Not sure if there are just less applicants this year or people are shy about posting. So I've decided to post here in hopes of getting it going.
This is my second time applying (first time was in 2018 and I did not receive any interviews). So far I have had Skype interviews with POIs from UVic, UTSC and Calgary. I just got an email today from UVic inviting me to another Skype interview with clinical faculty members (after which they will determine whether I am offered a spot in the program). I am hoping that someone who went through that interview process at UVic is reading this and can give me an idea of what kinds of questions to expect.
I expect that any school I don't hear back from by the end of January is a no-go, although I know some schools have slightly later timelines, such as Ottawa (I am told profs don't review applications until end of January/beginning of February) and York (profs start reviewing applications in mid-January).
    Good luck to everyone!

Received an informal offer from my Windsor POI for Neuropsych! My application still has to go through some committees and the Dean before a formal offer, but I'm very excited.

Also for anyone who applied to Ryerson and didn't receive an interview/Visiting Day invite, don't lose hope! I have been informed that "some faculty members are not able to participate in Visiting Day, and are conducting separate interviews. As a result, not all short-listed applicants are being invited to the Visiting Day."

Not that I know anything for sure, but I'm not worried that I haven't heard from York yet. I know there were people last year who didn't hear from POIs about setting about Skype meetings until the end of January... I wouldn't start to worry until like early February. But idk maybe someone on here knows more than I do!

The start of another week... I am so hoping for some good news this week for all of us! If you're feeling frustrated, down on yourself, swirling in self-doubt, and constantly wondering if you're "good enough" - you're not alone.

I had a Skype interview about a week ago but haven't heard anything since.... from what I read in last year's forum they tend to be pretty late with invites - I would expect them to be sent out by this week, but I've heard sometimes it's only a week notice
