I think have research assistant roles helps, but I think what you do in those roles/what experience you gain matters more. Do you have conferences, publications, did you do data analysis or just conduct studies with partcipants, were you involved in the REB process etc. I think I would work on gaining these experiences more than the sheer number of labs you work in. Hope this helps

That does help. This current lab has more opportunity for things like REB work etc. So I think I will concentrate on the two labs rather than taking on another that is simply more data coding. I have an undergraduate conference presentation but not publications yet. So far no data analysis experience but hoping to get that while doing an independent research project next year, plus hopefully getting the opportunity to analyze data in a lab during next school year, which will be my last year.  This comment did help! thank you very much.

I received a CGS-M award this year for a school I had not interviewed with, but had not yet been rejected from. For me, it was a no. I still encourage people to reach out as this may differ across programs.
Good luck to everyone in the last week or so ❤️

I got SSHRC for 2/3 programs I applied to, one being a counselling psychology program and it's also for the school I was accepted at! I hope my decline for the other school opens up for someone else on here! I was so surprised I burst into tears! Congrats to everyone else who got offers/alternates!
The only thing I'm a bit confused about, since I'll have it for my first year I assume it okay if I don't start my research till winter/spring 2022?

    Hey everyone!

I hopped on to share some great news: I GOT AN OFFER FROM MY DREAM PROGRAM!
    School: University of Toronto, OISE
Type: MA in School and Clinical Child Psychology
    Acceptance/Waitlist/Rejection: Acceptance
Type of Notification: Email from assigned Faculty Advisor, who gave unofficial offer; Email from Department to check SGS portal for decision, where two documents were uploaded (official offer letter and funding information)
    Date Notified: March 24, 2021; March 25, 2021
    DM for POI: Sure thing!

Thank you all for being so supportive to one another. I hope everyone gets accepted into the school of their dreams when the time is right for them.

Some quick facts about my application
My GPA wasn't so great but I hope that offers some hope for people applying! I also didn't major in psychology but had enough courses to be treated as equal. I did better in my last year but honestly it wasn't that competitive. I did, however, have many publications and conference presentations/posters. I work at two different hospitals and a lab at UofT. My three references were all professors with two of them being child and adolescent clinicians: a psychiatrist and psychologist. I think it was my referees, letter of intent, and CV that made up for my marks

Hi everyone! I just accepted my offer to start the Clinical Psychology graduate program at UBC-Vancouver in the Fall. I turned down an offer from UNB today and really hope this opens a spot for someone in here on the waitlist! It was a super difficult decision but I'm so so excited.
Anyone else in here going to UBC next year for Clinical in Van? Would love to start a groupchat or something ❤️  I'm from NS so will be very excited to make new friends!

This is my second time applying so I can definitely speak to these really good questions (all things I was wondering last year!)
    (1) I only applied to 3 schools last year and this year, I applied to 2/3 of the same supervisors - this year I was accepted to 1 and waitlisted to the other. I did reach out after I got the rejection letter and thanked them for their time, let them know I would apply next year (they encouraged this as well - I think most POIs do), and asked if there was anything in my application they thought I could improve upon. Specifically one POI wrote me back a very detailed and kind email with phenomenal and super well-crafted advice about my application. That being said, I absolutely think you can ask for this even if you didn't interview with them. The worst they can say is no!
I didn't ask to volunteer in their lab/work over the summer because they were in another province, but had they been close to home I definitely would have asked. Where things are remote this year, you should absolutely ask just in case they do have something available! I think that would look very keen on your end and again, they may say yes and you have your foot in the door for next year!

    (2) Once you finish your honours thesis, you will have a lot more to strengthen your CV with! Talk to your honours supervisor about potentially publishing your thesis, and see if you can submit to conferences related to your research.  This is super easy right now because everything is virtual, so conferences are more accessible than ever. You could also see if there is a paid position in your lab (or another lab) as an RA or even Research Coordinator once you graduate, which would strengthen your CV even further.
I'm not sure how much this added to my application, but I also volunteered with Kid's Help Phone as a Crisis Responder (they're always looking for volunteers) and felt this really prepared me for questions about how I knew I wanted to be a Clinical Psychologist and other clinical based questions. It's also an amazing volunteer opportunity for those who want to go into this field, super rewarding and helped me grow so much as a person! I 1000% recommend

Lastly, do not give up hope!!!! This is an extremely hard program to get into (harder than med school and law school combined). Most people do not get in on their first try ESPECIALLY while still in undergrad - cut yourself some slack. You are doing so great. This was a hard pill that I had to swallow last year so trust me, I know that it hurts. If this ends up being a gap year for you, appreciate that in its entirety! This is the first time you won't be in school since you were so young! Enjoy it! Try to build your CV as much as you can, spend time with your family and friends, and relax. You earned a break and it will be very much appreciated once you do enter a taxing graduate program (which you absolutely will eventually!). Good luck!
