you're not permitted to take the econ course outside your specialization just as a heads up. It's a shame, some other streams have much more preferable econ classes!

    Leaning IDP, HDHP, or IOGP.

Also, I'm taking the fact that both of the Fall IIA classes are already marked as "full, no waitlist" as something of a sign from the universe. Actually, even the lone class that has no specialization (EU in International Affairs, 5805) is full

It will show up in the warnings that it is full, if it does not say anything it is still open

The orientation powerpoint from 2018 (on page 24) says that you can only change from full- to part-time under "exceptional circumstances." I think there's an argument to be made that the present circumstances as "exceptional."

i feel the same way as you...i also have a govt job, which i was ok with leaving just a few months ago when i thought i'd being moving to ottawa and would be studying full time/TA-ing under normal circumstances (i was also really looking forward to the co-op/internship opportunities in ncr).
but the whole pandemic has made me very reluctant to give up a stable job. it's also great your workplace is also allowing you to reduce your hours, i personally don't have this option, although i'm hoping that part-time studies at npsia might be allowed (i've read its quite rare).

Received a conditional offer from NPSIA today! Was a bit of a wait, but there is light in the end of the "Review in Progress" tunnel.

still haven't heard back from any of my email inquiries, but this is good to know and confirmed what i thought completely understandable given whats been going on. thanks!
its also interesting hearing how they're preparing. i know things are rapidly changing, but right now it really does feel like classes will be online next fall - if that is the case, i really hope we'll be able to resume to in person classes at some point in 2021, if not earlier

My app still says in review by the department but my specialization has updated to conflict analysis and resolution. Personally kinda bummed out about that because foreign policy was my first choice, dont even think I put conflict in my top five.
Wonder how typically people choose to not do the specialization at all and if it's impossibly difficult to get into classes marked with the field designation

OK that's makes me feel better! Thank you so much I was pretty gutted at first
I personally don't find most of the classes in my selected specialization interesting at all and would prefer taking classes in literally any other stream (don't mean to sound ungrateful but I was worried we were heavily restricted in course options). I still wonder if we can switch because otherwise might just select to do the general MA
Also got funding today... 1k in scholarship and 5k each year as a ta. was expecting more of a straight scholarship but still grateful.

I talked to a friend in the program he said the specializations are not that important. You have the ability to take all the courses, just those who have specialization usually get first choice but there always spots for everyone

the mga is a professional degree, so they provide very little funding to offer holders and the program also doesn't qualify for the school's finacial aid (utaps). you might want to look at external funding sources and your province's loan system/private loans from places like scotiabank, etc.

As a former u of t student I'd agree that the status invited definitely is a good sign (as in you'd be able to eventually register in classes, that's how acorn works). I'm sure you got it and are just waiting to hear back now officially ?

think you nailed it. your degree might open doors, but work/other attributes are equally important
i also personally feel like there's less an emphasis on brand name schools in the public sector than private sector.

i'm personally finding carleton 360 super glitchy. i've gone back to recommended for assessment.
i'm more patient this time since i know i've been accepted unofficially, but i really am curious to see the funding amount lol (im hoping they're generous but it could be a pretty small amount)

I have been wondering about this as well, the school recommended that if you didn't get OSAP, OGS, or some other type of scholarship, ScotiaBank offers professional loans up to 100k if your credit history is good and if you can potentially get a cosigner (depending on if your working full time or not). In terms of the return on investment, i honestly can't say, I know some people that went to programs like Munk, LSE, Georgetown etc and never got any big private sector jobs to justify the debt they took, while on the other hand, i have met a lot of people from what would be considered "middle of the pack universities and programs" who have done exceptionally well in gov't and the private sector across North America. I really think it depends on what your end goal is in addition to specific attributes about you as individual (work/volunteer experience, additional languages or special skills). The only sure thing programs like this can give you is better access to alumni networks and special events, in addition to giving you the opportunity to work in prestigious departments/organizations (coop). Atleast that's my take on it, i'm sure others have different perspectives on here as well.

I just got an email from Kailey saying that I got an unoffical offer from NPSIA.
Does anyone know when we get to know our specialization?
