Re: GWU Global Health Sciences PhD, I hadn't heard anything since submitting my application mid-March. I know there's been one acceptance on this discussion board (of 2 or 3 spots). I e-mailed admissions yesterday to get final word about my decision so I can move on and prep for next year, and to my surprise, they still seem to be reviewing applications. The response was that my application was in department review and that I would hear in a few weeks. Just wanted to keep everyone posted because I know there were a couple of us that applied mid-March.
My understanding of the (very new) program is that they were looking for someone with microbiology / infectious disease lens and perhaps another with community health and / or health systems lens. Perhaps these two tracks are on different timelines?

I got taken off the waitlist on JHU, the only school I applied in this cycle. Feel so blessed!! Thank you, Everyone, for your support and sharing in the tough waiting time. This is a great community. I would never be able to survive in the process without this forum. Wish those still on waitlists the best luck! For JHU folks, I would like to connect with you guys offline ~~

Finally finally FINALLY received my first offer of admission to the University of Maryland Environmental Health PhD program!!! However, it's unfunded for my first year so I'll be carrying a small stipend from one of my prior mentors and likely commuting from home to save rental costs. It's a dream program due to mentorship, connections, and projects so I don't want to turn it down! For those still waiting, it ain't over til it's over

Just been accepted to the GW PhD program in Global Public Health Sciences! After a stream of rejection mails, this is the first acceptance letter and I'm tearing up ? I was really prepared for the worst, as this is my second cycle of applying. I really couldn't believe at first though how I'd been rejected or waitlisted by so many schools I applied.. but to those who are still in the waiting game, don't give up yet. I got my interview request in mid March and nearly gave up as I knew the funded positions were highly competitive (they said they are taking only two students) - but you never know where life takes you to!

This forum was active, supportive, and lively for many months. Once people get their offers, they kinda go their own way and stop communicating in here, huh? It still is a great resource for the early application season, but doesn't feel connected like a group once people get dealt their cards.

Do we have a group for networking sharing ideas and learning from each other as we start our programs this summer/fall? I am thinking not within a specific school but for all us going to different schools and programs.

I am so elated. I got into the PhD Program at UTHealth Houston in Environmental Health Dept !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my first real acceptance. And though I am waiting on other schools, looks like this is my most logical choice.
Just a little bit clueless on the funding! Could someone share the information if they have any?

Is he a magician? Sounds like you and I are in a similar position. I've found that most FT programs actually prohibit students from working, at least at anything near full time, elsewhere. At least in writing that's what they say

Also just got a rejection from UC Berkeley’s DrPH program. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions the past month!!

Good luck to everyone starting programs in the fall, folks still waiting for decisions, and those who are reapplying. This was my 2nd application cycle and worked so hard to get to this stage! I’m also thrilled to say I accepted a fully funded offer from UCLA’s PhD in CHS last week! Stay persistent and strong y’all!! ♥️✊?

I reached out to admissions to find out. Here's the reply:
The timeline for the Global Health Sciences Ph.D. program is the same as the other programs. Please allow 4-6 weeks of departmental review and to receive a decision. Apologies in advance for any delays in receiving a decision. We've received a record number of applications this cycle and so the admissions committee has a large queue to review.

I’m considering working full time while getting my Epi PhD, but I’m not sure how stressful it will be yet. I’ve heard of people who work 20-30 hours per week, but not so much 40 hours. I’m in my early 30s and have been working/side hustling for several years, so I’m hoping that experience in time management will help me balance it. It definitely looks tight with a full course load + study time outside of class. I would consider reducing school to part time if needed. But it’s been done before so why can’t we do it?

Y'all, it finally happened. I got accepted. I'm going to get a PhD in epi! UMass may not be ranked t10, but it's a great school and in three years I'll have the degree. Anyone else going to accepted student day tomorrow?

    Hello everyone,
Completed the University of South Florida DrPH Laboratory Science and Practice interview this AM and immediately received acceptance to the Fall 2021, 7 student cohort following the call.  I was completely shocked and actually shed a tear.  It was the only program I applied to since the program is looking for very specific laboratory experience, licensure and MPH background.
Interestingly enough, I had emailed them this Tuesday inquiring about the status of my app and 10 minutes later received the interview request email.  I was a bit skeptical thinking that they may have forgotten about me and offered me a "token" interview but I guess I was wrong.
Thank you all for the support and best of luck to everyone on here!

I ended up applying to a different department, but I believe the funding is the same. The change is that tuition is now 100% covered, whereas before it wasn't. My understanding is that there are some stipends available via department scholarships, but most students will need to piece together their own living expenses through TA-ships, consultancies, etc.

For anyone seeing this cycle as a “fight to the finish,” where every applicant to “your” program is a threat, let me give you a real example of why you being an asshole is the wrong move. @CommunityHealth21and I applied to some of the same schools, got waitlisted at the same place and are now accepted into the same program. Instead of seeing each other as competition, we DM’d each other with insider info (eg “how is USF really??), debriefed on interviews; and they were even kind enough to offer to connect me to someone who got in the program, (despite being waitlisted and hoping for a spot to open up). Now we’re in the same cohort and I’m pumped to work with them!
Being a jerk or rooting for someone’s failure  can be tempting (especially when anxiety is high and decisions trickle) but don’t forget that these folks are also your colleagues. So let’s lift each other up! You never know if a person will become an ally, a cohort member, or a collaborator on a major project.

Hi everyone, just wanted to update that I applied to 3 DrPH programs and 1 PhD. So far 1 rejection at UNC, interviewed at Indiana University still waiting to hear, and just got accepted to USF after interviewing 2 weeks ago. The PhD program I applied to Maastricht Univ, Netherlands. Has a pretty good reputation and also a part-time program tailored for working professionals. I was also accepted there. I am incredibly lucky to have been accepted in at least 2 schools given that I cannot stop working full-time nor did I want to retake the GREs. With most schools dropping GRE requirement I felt this was my one chance!
Though I'm still waiting for Indiana, I have already decided I will go with Maastricht because I work in Africa and it's easier and cheaper to fly to Europe for classes than the USA.
I wish everyone that is still waiting the best! I am a working mom with 2 small kids so my plate is already overflowing but I didn't give up and I hope you won't either. I also encourage everyone who did not gain acceptance to broaden their net when reapplying.
