Yes, I just checked unfortunately I got rejected to UCSF. I did just find out I got into Yale though!! UCSF and Yale were my top choices so I am really happy!!

Got a call from my POI at UCSF BMI that I was accepted and official notification should be coming soon!!?

I was just accepted to the HST program at MIT/Harvard!! I can't believe it. Still part of me thinks they made a mistake and accidentally admitted me. 

Just had an interview with UCLA medical informatics. Feeling terrible right now.
I was told there were only two professors interested in my application so I had to perform well. (Seems like other people might have multiple interviews, meeting 4 - 5 professors in total). But I guess I did not.
It's actually my second time interviewing with this program. Have no idea how the bar become so high this year.

PhD offer from CMU CPCB! No interview
 

ACCEPTED TO UPENN GCB! Wow so excited. 

I got an email from UCLA Medical Informatics inviting me interview today!

I applied through the CMU computer science application portal. Its supposedly a short 30 minute interview with a POI, but got an official email from the CPCB coordinator to set up the interview.

Was just invited to interview at the MIT/Harvard HST program! Super hyped because this is my top program, but also pretty intimidated because the interview session is 2.5 hours long and the times overlap with BIG's interviews. Not really sure how to prepare.

If you have extensive research experience, a good GRE, and anything else that makes you stand out then you may not need to do a masters. If that isn't the case then yes I would recommend either doing a masters or you can do any type of post-bac research. In my opinion, post-bac research or job is better since you will get paid and develop experience instead of going into debt paying off your masters. 
Also depends on what your definition of a "good school" is. Many schools that aren't considered "top" have excellent PI's that are at the top of the field. I think it's best to first find PI's that you're really interested in and then apply to those schools. Ultimately, a PhD will be about your advisor as opposed to the school itself. 

I kinda want to say also dont apply all to top school. The population post on here is very screwed.. a lot of they have near prefect gpa with publication... aim a little lower and you will have much better mental health and options in application season

Hard to say what the avg gpa is amongst us. Applications are reviewed holistically, so if you have other things that can offset a poor gpa then you may still be considered. But know things are very competitive and a lot of students have both great gpa’s as well as a lot of experience. 
 
Completing a masters before applying to PhD may be helpful if you feel like you lack research experience and/or are not ready to dive into a 4-6 year program. Although the largest downside is that masters programs can be expensive whereas phd programs are typically funded (or easier to get funding). 

No official email. But I emailed the coordinator today about a change in my schedule after I filled out the qualtrics form and she responded pretty quickly, so I'm assuming they're still working out the details. 

It might make a difference! I applied for the BISB track. 

That's interesting that they hold such short interviews without a second round! I'm actually a domestic applicant so I don't think the interviews are separated between the two pools. 
And I also received an email from UCSD yesterday regarding a February interview -- I hope you did too or will shortly if if it different for international applicants!

I haven't heard anything yet!
 

For the update: I received a call for the interview from the professor mentioned in my personal statement. The official notification would come in January. Also fyi: I am an international student applying for the BMI track.
