That did help a lot! Thank you so much :)

As an additional question, I was wondering how did you go about your letter of intent? Did you highlight particular experiences, research work, or just focused on what the program can offer for your career?

Also NPSIA student from last year - I focused on future; you have your CV to highlight what you did - so I would recommend making it about what you will do

I want to do a joint JD-MA Int'l Affairs but I want to go to NPSIA but not Ottawa Common law (lol) so I'm thinking of doing NPSIA 2021-2022 then go elsewhere for law.  I noticed that one need 5.0 credits (10 one semester courses) to finish without co-op.  Can this be done in one semester? Is it a bad idea to try and take that many classes at once? Any advice is great :)

I am a current NPSIA student, you will hard time doing it in 3 semsters - as summer courses are very limited; if you split courses 4-3-3 as semster you may be able to . But keep in mnd it is a very intense program wth a very high course load. I doing a double masters and I am focusing on that only and I am still really struggling, not to mention if you want to also do your law applications as well it is time consuming. I would consider skipping NPSIA if you are going into law. UofO and NPSIA are very complementary but I know some people who did NPSIA and went to do law somehwere else and they said NPSIA did not help them overall

Ha! Update on the TA situation. I was informed by the department and the prof that my TA job would be sort of "student outreach" and wouldn't require any knowledge of the material. Okay, no worries!

Then, like two days later, the prof emails me to say that the TA needs of the class have been reassessed, that she can no longer use me, and that I'll likely be reassigned. It's been about 5 days since then, and I'm still attached to the class, but my "Total Hours" of work is now set at 0.

    Back in limbo! Fun stuff.

I am sorry you are in this situation, I have been in limbo and haven't been told anything either. Now I am kinda going of the assumption that I won't have hours period. Cause classes start next week and I am set at 0 hours

I just emailed Kailey earlier this week. She said we should be finding out in the middle of August, so ASAP hopefully? I also just sent out all my employment paperwork to HR.

Got the INAF 5018 syllabus today via email. Anyone else get a chance to read it?

How many hours did they give you with admission, if you don't mind me asking?

I didn't get the syllabus - any chance I can email you to forward it to me

Is anyone doing a TA'ship? I still haven't heard anything or have any assignments in my Carleton Central. Does anyone know anything about what that process looks like?

I don't have any assigments - I asked the department about that but they never got back to me. I am considering but probably not, I don't know if I'd wanna TA a distance-ed course

    Hi all.

Long time lurker here. I just want to thank everyone for their input over the months. It has been a great help for me and many others I'm sure.

I got my acceptance to NPSIA back in March/April and am still stoked.

I got admitted to the Conflict Resolution and Analysis field, which was my first choice, but I've had a change of heart since. I am now hoping to switch into DFP. I was able to enroll in DFP courses after July 10, but am still unable to register into the econ courses for that field. I'm curious, did anyone successfully enroll in an econ course outside their field?

I was shocked to see that a lot of the courses that I had my eyes on were filled up before I could even register. By reading the comments here, it seems that some had earlier time tickets than others.

I am currently located in Waterloo, ON and was looking forward to relocate to Ottawa. That's obviously been put on hold for the fall, and judging by today's email, for the winter as well. I am wondering what your relocation plans are or how many of you chose to move to Ottawa, regardless of the situation.

Hope to meet you all soon!

Irnerd is right, But maybe you could email Kailey - let her know you are interested in switching she may be able yo help you take a different econ course

Ooh, a new class has appeared in Carleton Central! INAF 5409: "Turkish Foregin [sic] Policy"

    Jesus... talk about niche...

Or was it always there, and my mind just blanked it out?

I think I saw it before - but I don't know if it was couple of days ago or couple of weeks ago

Also - I guess that would be diplomatic specialty that already has like7 courses to choose from

Intelligence and International Affairs is also an IPIS elective (cross-listed as IPIS 5303), so some of the spots may have been taken by students either doing MIPIS or the IPIS graduate diploma.

I figured they have spots reserved for both. Considering how much emphasis they were putting on taking things in your specialty I find this ironic

Yeah was looking at those two also.... Alas, full, no waitlist....  ?   Oops, Apparently Global policy is still open....  Not sure if I will sign up for that or not..

Update:  Signed up for Global Policy.  Any chance of getting into the actual specialization courses seem to be nil and next to nil apparently...

Yeah - I am in IIA. I emailed them and asked wh ythey only had 2 courses and Kailey said they didn't anticipate such high demand or something along those lines. I may be crazy but I feel like other specialties got more selection than us with only 2 courses.

I am curious if this was an issue last year.

Haha I knew some ppl, like me, d have difficulty enrolling in courses :( currently at 1.0 credit right now for the Fall semester (those three mandatory Fall courses), but still I must add 0.5 course otherwise I dont think I d be able to maintain a full time status? (1.5 Fall / 1.5 Winter = 3.0 credits) This is really ridiculous; cant enroll in my own specialization courses/ in other courses since they r being reserved for other specializations... lol

In addition to Hawkmoon's comment, you maintain full time status regardless of number of courses. They are opening all courses this Friday - so we can take something else just in case. That being said, I don't know why most of us did not have the ability to get into our own courses.

Since I am in IIA and courses were closed I may take a diplomacy stream course and request being switched as I cannot fullfil my specialization

DFP. I prepared a worksheet and will check during my lunch break whether the classes are full. Not particularly optimistic lol.

I did prepare back ups but theres one class in particular in my field im keen to take so fingers crossed, but i have to wait until 3:30

I am curious how they decide on time slots. Because it is not based on last names as mine start with a letter in the latter part of the alphabet so it must be based on something else

Yeah this sucks....  I thought they would have more options open in case this happened...

Well at least 5011, 5012 and 5016 ares till open... yay......

They open other courses in a week so I may just enroll in a course in a different field, but it is odd that they filled up before 10:30. My slot wasn't even late but everything was already full thats a little weird
