  1. for those wondering, just got a call from Hopkins CMM about offer of admission…
  2. Hello, did anyone hear back from Weill Cornell IMP for the second in-person interview invite?
  3. Sound good! Thanks. Regardless if it’s all out I’m very happy for you two! Smash that interview and good luck !!
  4. Thanks! Yeah I don't know how they are organizing the way they are releasing invitation invites for Harvard Immunology. I have not heard anything from them, so hopefully you are right and they are slowly sending invites As for Yale Immunology, I actually received the interview invite last nigh at 10:30 PM EST which is so late. I'm not sure if they sent the invites all at once or like you mentioned for Harvard Immunology, by batches.
  5. Congratulations!! when did they send it specifically? like 1PM Monday (12/19)? Asking cause I was told interview invites comes out tomorrow. I guess they released it early.
  6. Hello All! Sorry I haven't had the time to post and update on all things grad school apps. The past week has been very busy in terms of research work, but here we are! I see that a lot of people from here and reddit have gotten interview invites from their programs. First off congratulations! you deserved it. For those still waiting and have not heard from their programs, do not worry! all is not lost, it's not over until it's over. As for my application status, I have been fortunate to received interview offers from several programs I have applied to so far, and very happy and excited for whats to come. For those wondering, I applied to Immunology Graduate Programs and have gotten interview invites from the following: Penn IGG Duke Immunology Emory IMP Weill Cornell IMP Anyways, stay optimistic! there is still time and like I said all is not lost. wish you all the best
  7. I recieved a supplemental diversity questions. I'd say search up "yale upplemental diversity" on your email and it might pop up. What i know is that yale does not have a "secondary questionaires" whatever is in the app is it. the follow up diversity question I got is just so they can get a detailed sense for the applicant background and its not part of the application review as it was mentioned in the email.
  8. Hello All! First off, happy belated thanksgiving to all of you! I hope you had a great thanksgiving. I know It's been a while since I last posted and created this forum. I have been very busy with my applications and making sure they all look great prior to submitting them. I have finally finished all my apps and am just now waiting to hear back once the deadline passes for this application season. Speaking of which, we only have 4 days left till the December 1st deadline (of course deadline varies for each schools) so make sure you turn in all your apps and have all your required document received by this date! I am hopeful this season for all of us and hope this will be great application season for everyone! Anyways, hope to hear from all of you more soon! and lets go smash this years application season!!!!
  9. Hello All! I checked to see if there is a new forum for this year's Fall 2023 Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. Program, but found nothing so decided to make one for the team! Feel free to follow the forum and post any questions, updates/status, suggestions on this years application season. Anyways, happy application season!!
  10. I agree with you. I think these prep programs needs to explicitly mention if their programs are only for PhD or both with MD/PhD aspiring students because only a few does mention this. I think they should put a note where it says "MD/PhD aspiring applicants are not eligible to apply" or perhaps something like "MD/PhD aspiring applicants are welcome to apply but spots are not guaranteed". Take Hopkins for example, on their website, they mentioned that their PREP program is accepting applicants who intend to pursue PhD or MD/PhD, so I applied. However, I got rejected, which I found out over the phone with the Director. I was told my application was "too medical" and it is because I want to pursue an MD/PhD and not solely PhD. I politely accepted the rejection and moved on. However, I disagree with the comment that my application was "too medical" because my application barely even talked about the medicine part of my aspiration. My application was pure on talking about my strong desire for research, how my past research experiences solidified my aspiration to pursue PhD, and how training as a PhD researcher will supplement my career as a physician -- this is the only part where I talked about medicine. But then again, I was told too during that call that they will not be accepting MD/PhD aspiring applicants this year or maybe even the following year. They fear that these applicants will end up applying to medical school which will result as a PREP failure since the purpose of this programs is to enroll scholars to PhD programs. I am not such applicants. I really want to do M.D. and a PhD. Anyways, I guess what I am trying to say is that PREP programs should inform prospective applicants whether they are eligible to apply or not because applicants (like myself) put a a lot of dedication and effort on creating a really nice and well thought out application only to find out that they are actually not eligible later on . You might be wondering, "well why didn't you call or asked if you are eligible to apply as an aspiring MD/PhD?" Well I did, I talked to all PREP programs during the 2019 ABRCMS and they told me I can apply and that includes Hopkins. Talking to these programs at ABRCMS helped me narrow down the schools I was able to apply to, schools that consider MD/PhD aspiring applicants. But then again, applying to these programs I knew that I had little chance of getting offered a spot, not because my GPA is low or cause I dId not have a meaningful research experience, but because I want to pursue an MD/PhD. I am not saying that that is the sole reason why I got rejected from these programs but it is definitely a huge contributor. FYI. I applied to Hopkins (Rejected), Sinai, Einstein, UPenn, Case Western, and Harvard (last 5 ghosted --> assumed rejection). But then again there could be a hundred prep programs in the country and 99 don't believe in you, but you just need one and to me that's IRTA I am channeling my inner Lady Gaga there. Anyways goodluck to everyone who is still on this race. Stay safe friends.
  11. Hi All. I have accepted a position at the NIAID at NIH and I will be doing my post-baccalaureate research position at the Vaccine Research Center. I wish you all the best during this process and I hope you all stay safe during this times. As for Hopkins I actually called the director of Hopkins PREP directly because I was running out of time before my offer from NIH expires. I was advised directly from the director to accept the offer from NIH and told me that I was not on the list of applicants being considered for their PREP and states that this is partly due to me wanting to do MD/PhD and since PREP is focus on PhD I was not able to make it to the list. I trust the director so much and so I decided to accept the NIH offer. To give you an insight as well, they received about 200 applicants and they are only accepting 6-7 PREP. Anyways if you have any questions please let me know. PM me anytime. Goodluck everyone and I hope you all are well and safe.
  12. Congratulations on your acceptance and interview invitation! If you are considering on attending UPenn for PREP, then definitely ask for an extension from Washington for at least another week to give you a time to finish the interview with UPenn and perhaps a decision from them. If you want to go to UPenn more than Washington then use the extension as a stepping stone for offers. What I mean by that is when UPenn offers you a spot, decline Washington because you have an offer from UPenn standing already so regardless of declining Washington, you know you are going somewhere, somewhere that you want more than Washington. But make sure you don't accept the offer from UPenn right away if you want to hear from other programs that you want to go more than UPenn. If you are waiting to hear from another program that you like more than UPenn, the I would suggest to put a hold on your decision for UPenn by asking for extension so that when the other program that you want to go more than UPenn invite you for interview, you have the extension from UPenn to do the interview with the other program and possibly getting an offer from them just before your extension deadline. I don't know if that make sense but yah :). But if you want to go to UPenn more than Washington then definitely ask for an extension. It doesn't hurt to ask because you are just trying to make an informed decision whether you want to go to their program or not. Anyways, congratulations again and best of luck my friend.
  13. Hey!! I want to pursue MD/PhD in Immunology/Virology and focus on infectious diseases, so it's nice to hear that you want to go to the same field. I understand that sometimes PREP institution may offer only a few selections for potential lab placement. So yes! definitely confirm if you are only limited to the list of mentors/labs they have listed or if you can choose the lab you want at any graduate program close to what you want to pursue. Because there are times that the potential lab/mentors they list is not the whole list and perhaps these are just labs that recently hosted a PREP student. So definitely ask the program if you can choose whoever you want to work with. As for your question whether asking for extension is rude, I don't think it is. These programs for sure know that you applied to other programs and that you are considering your options. I was offered a position at the NIAID at NIH and they gave me a week to respond, but I have not heard back from other programs that I wanted to go as well, so I asked for an extension citing that I need more time to talk about it with my family because the position is guaranteed two years, which is fine with me, and they were very understanding and they gave me another week. This is a big decision to make, dedicating 1-2 years of working as a researcher so definitely ask for an extension if you can't make up your mind right away.
  14. Hi Friend. You should know that these PREP program are NIH funded and the caliber of research they provide is for sure the same as everyone else. Having to attend a well known university does not necessarily mean that you will be benefited greatly in the long run, because PhD programs will not evaluate your knowledge and skills for graduate school based on the name on the university you attended for undergrad or institution you did your PREP on. What matters most for them is your enthusiasm for research, and that is reflected upon your research experiences regardless of where you gain those experiences. Because just like the GRE, where you did your PREP is not representative of your ability to excel on your graduate studies. So even if UGA is not a well known school, but they have a really great research faculties that can help you mature as a scientist, then definitely go to UGA. Choosing the right PREP institution should not depend on whether that institution is well known or not, you should based your decision whether the faculty that they have offers the research you want and if the program also offers other things aside from exceptional research experience that will help you grow as a scientist. Also if you are not sure yet and would like to hear from other program, do not hesitate to ask for extension. At the end of the day, it is your decision to make. Just make sure that when you decide, you have carefully thought about it and that your decision is what is best for you in the long run. Goodluck.
  15. Yes the coronavirus is definitely a concern, especially for Mount Sinai since they do in person interview. And Harvard is a tough one cause they only reserve 3-4 life science RSI.
  16. Hi Friends. Just wanted to share something. I did me some undercover moment. So I applied to NIH IRTA, Hopkins, Case, Sinai, UPenn, Einstein, and Harvard Since I have an offer standing I wanted to know from other NIH PREP programs when they will notify applicants, so: I called Hopkins first. I was told by a person on the line that the final committee is meeting tomorrow to evaluate who to extend the invitation for the next round of admission to PREP, which is the interview. In addition, the person on the line also told me that perhaps around Thursday is when the first wave or maybe all invitations for interview will be sent. As for Case, I tried calling to ask updates on PREP. I was told by a person on the line that they are busy trying to manage admissions at the moment since they are also still doing PhD recruitment and also cause of the coronavirus issue. I was told though that they have started looking at applications but interview invitations are yet TBD and that invitations may go out end of march early April. IDK if these are legit but that is what the person told me when I called. For Sinai, I tried calling as well to ask when applicants will be notified progress and the guy was a bit unsure but he said since interviews are held on April, invitations should go out sometime next week or the next 2-3 weeks. For UPenn, I was told they are behind because they are doing many things at the same time like summer programs, PhD recruitment, and PREP, so it is taking a while to review applicants. The person on the line told me though that invitations/admission (IDK if they do interview) should go out in the next 2-3 weeks. For Einstein. Due to the coronavirus issue the admission committee for PREP are having some issues scheduling time to meet and so review is pushed back to mid April. NOTE: Einstein DO NOT DO INTERVIEWS Lastly, Harvard. Harvard is a little hard to get info for because they kind of don't have a direct line for PREP to ask questions. I was told to contact them by email: minrec@fas.harvard.edu . I didn't email them of course, but if you guys want. I attached the email. However, on their RSI site it says that decisions are made March/April. I'm not sure if that is official admission or invitation only. NOTE THAT THESE INFORMATION ARE FROM EITHER THEIR CONTACT PERSON OR THEIR RECEPTIONIST. THESE INFORMATION DID NOT COME DIRECTLY FROM ANY OF THE DIRECTORS AND MEMBERS OF THE ADMISSION COMMITTEE FOR EACH PREP INSTITUTION. SO THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THESE MIGHT NOT BE TRUE OR PERHAPS THEY ARE. Hope this help y'all. Lets hope for the best. I really hope they will let us know soon!
  17. Hi friends. Current applicant here. I applied to NIH IRTA, Hopkins, Case, Mount Sinai, Einstein, UPenn, and Harvard. Interviewed and offered at NIH IRTA but haven't accepted since I am still waiting for the other programs. Anyways, looking forward to talking with you all. ?
