TaciturnTales got a reaction from ClassicsCandidate in Fall 2021 Applicants
Ugh, I'm sorry. But like you said, the waiting is over! Time to go enjoy some anxiety-free fun.
I'm glad you have a plan on moving forward. I don't, aside from trying to make my application stronger for next year and being depressed. lol

Congrats, @somethingClassics! I was also interviewed (on 15th February), but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'm hoping for a waiting list and wishing you the best of luck @DiomedesVIII.
Just to add my voice to the chorus, I also wish our colleague @ClassicsCandidate the best of luck this year. You have been absolutely amazing and essential in this group! I wish you find joy in everything you choose to do this year!

Sounds like it should be relaxing, doesn't it? But then you jump every time you get an email or a phone call. I'm going to throw my phone in a river.

Thanks for the input! I guess I'll go ahead and give it a shot. Good point about housing. Fortunately my best friend lives in the same city as this school, so I can always stay there.

Hello, everyone! I have a funding related question and I wasn't sure where else to ask it. I'm hoping all of you with more experience in how these things work could give me your opinion. ?
I'm waiting to hear back about funding from the one program I have been accepted to so far. I don't know how likely I am to get funding through the department, so I'm looking at other assistantships that are offered by the school at large. I have found a couple that might work, but I noticed that they start in June? My acceptance is for the Fall 2021 semester. Does anyone know if that would be a problem? I tried contacting the people in charge of the hiring for these assistantships, but they haven't responded and the application deadline is coming up.

I've been getting so many wonky calls myself! I had one from Toronto the other day, and I was like, you know what, professors could have kept their original numbers, I still have my out-of-state one, you never know...and it was definitely a spam call. It's definitely the season to be bamboozled into those calls!!

Sorry to hear about your University of Michigan result! I hope you get some better news soon.
The 10x application thing gives me anxiety. I wonder if those numbers are specific for Ph.D. programs. I'm applying for MA programs, since my background isn't exactly in classics. x_x

hey y'all! I just discovered GradCafe, and wanted to pop in and say hello to all my fellow classicists. I'm applying for (funded) MAs for next fall and pretty much just playing the waiting game right now, although I've got an acceptance from University of Maryland and an interview with them for a full-funding TAship this Thursday ? Hope everyone is hanging in there as decisions slowly start to trickle out!

Yes, yes I do. I didn't apply to a lot of programs and so far I've been accepted by one and rejected by another. But now I get to wait two or three weeks or possibly more on funding info for the one that accepted me.
Are we having fun yet?!

That IS extremely frustrating! I'm crossing my fingers for you to get a fully funded spot somewhere!!

Wow, I hope that happens to me and you!
It's so frustrating, as I started applying to graduate programs for Fall 2019 and then had to defer to Fall 2020 in order to finish my second bachelor's degree. Then there was a pandemic and the funding that I almost got was pulled. Now here I am again. The thought of having to defer for another year is very disheartening and, oddly enough, I do not appear to be getting any younger.

Yeah, inquire to the DGS about when you'll know about the funding package. Congratulations on your acceptance, too, btw!

Congratulations! I wish I could get into Boulder. lol I really hope there isn't a surge of applicants this cycle, because if so I'm probably screwed. I can't afford graduate school without funding.

No better way to kick off the anxiety of the season than with an offer of admission! I'd been telling myself (relatively successfully) that I shouldn't expect any decisions until Feb/Mar, and so I'd managed to avoid a lot of anxiety and dread for the time being. But I heard today that I'd been accepted into UC Boulder's Classics MA program! I'm 16th on the waitlist for funding though, and I thought that Boulder would be more of a safety school. While I'm thrilled to know I'll at least be going somewhere for grad school, now comes all the self-doubt and anxiety about all the other applications. 16th on the waitlist is also somewhat intriguing- it sounds like there were a lot of applicants and a lot of offers of admission. Just letting you guys know, am I right to think that maybe Classics has also seen a surge in applications this season?

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. I thought I should add in my news.
On Tuesday I was invited to UCLA's 'virtual recruitment' event which runs for 3 days towards the end of February. I was told that decisions would be made the week after. On Wednesday I was accepted into UNC's PhD program without an interview (ahhhh!) and no clear idea of funding. Still waiting to hear back from 4 other programs. Best of luck to everyone!
