TaciturnTales got a reaction from ClassicsCandidate in Fall 2021 Applicants
I still have another application due, so luckily that's keeping me distracted. After that, my plan is to just pretend that graduate school doesn't exist.

soooooo how's everyone doing? I think the worst part of this stage is not knowing when we'll hear back. Wishing everyone good news!

Anyone have any tips on how to stop checking my email every 20 minutes...?

Not sure if anyone is applying at University of Tennessee, but they said I should hear back from them in February.

You can search the results page by Classics results and see what date each result came in previous years. From what I gathered, generally things start picking up in late January and calm down by mid March. It's worth a look if you're wondering which places do interviews as well!

I got one from Florida State University that also said they were reviewing my application. They didn't indicate when final decisions would be made, though.
I guess I like to be informed, but I kinda wish they wouldn't send so many emails out. I get a heart attack every time.

Thanks. Honestly, I just had to laugh because I didn't know what else to do about it. Just crossing my fingers and trying to focus on work stuff until I hear back from schools!

Hello, everyone!
I am applying to programs for fall 2020, as well. This will be my second time applying - I think I almost got funding for this year, but then there were pandemic-related issues and I can't really afford graduate school without funding. Unfortunately the number of programs that I can apply to is somewhat limited, as I don't have the experience with classical languages that a lot of other people do (I'm currently trying to teach myself Latin to rectify this). The programs that I am interested in have an M.A. in Mediterranean/Classical Archaeology, as I would like to eventually pursue museum work as a curator. Best of luck to all of you during this process - it has been a rough year and I know we could all use something positive.

Hello guys, I am applying to anthropological archaeology PhD programs for fall 2021. I want to specialize in the quaternary studies, especially pleistocene archaeology. I am working on my writing sample now as I have done my education up to my Masters(will graduate in july 2021) in India where we don't have written assignments as a part of our course only tests. I have also started working on my SOP and truth be told, it's a daunting task. Best of luck to all of you guys and I hope that all of us get admitted to the programs we are aiming for

Best of luck, @ClassicsCandidate and all else applying!
I’ve been in a program for a few years now, and am happy to share my (naturally limited) perspective on the application process (which I had to go through twice) with any and all applicants — though since I’m a philologist literature programs are my forte. Consider this an open invitation for DMs, if y’all wish.

I don't have inside info, but I'm guessing it's going to vary a lot by school. I'd expect elite PhD programs to cut admissions hard (as part of general budget cuts), but, in line with Wafflotron's point, it's possible schools that need lots of TAs (like some of the places with funded Classics MAs) won't change their admissions too much. If you could be doing other things, I'd probably recommend waiting a year, just to maximize your chances, but if you don't, then you're probably ok going for the admissions, with the caveat that grad admissions are always dicey and museums are likely to be particularly hard-hit now (but again, I have no inside info).
EDIT: Oh, and this is clear from the rest of the thread, but I want to restate the general advice to never get (or really consider getting, unless one is independently wealthy) a Humanities grad degree without solid funding.

Haha, thanks! Doesn't the light at the end of the tunnel mean that I have to die first, though?
I'll probably be dead by the time I get to go to graduate school.

Honestly, I'm pretty discouraged. I graduated with my B.A. in 2011 and it took me some time to figure out what I really wanted to do (shouldn't have let people push me towards college right after high school). Then I realized that, to be decently prepared and get into a M.A. program, I needed a second bachelor's degree. Originally I planned to start graduate school in the fall of 2019, but there was a scheduling issue with a course for my B.S. and I wasn't able to graduate until this past December.
I did actually get into the school that I wanted to go to for the fall of 2019, but deferred until fall of 2020. What's even worse is that I got interviews for two of the three assistantships that I applied for, only to be told a month after these interviews that they weren't going to be hiring anyone (I'm assuming because of pandemic related funding issues). I can't afford graduate school without funding (see debt for two bachelor's degrees) and I can't defer admission to this school more than once, so I get to reapply.
All this to go into a field that is going to be difficult to find a job in and will likely not pay a ton once/if I get there. It sucks because it took me so much agonizing to figure out what I wanted to do.
