It's like the bittersweet ending to a long novel - viggosloof off to Chapel Hill, lafayette to Princeton, and LeatherElbows to UW, and so many more I've missed. Congratulations to everyone who has accepted their place at these lucky universities. 
 
I know those of you who have made your decisions have other more pressing things to attend to now, but please stick around as long as you can (or at least until April 15) to offer your support and advice.
 
Some of us still need a sympathetic ear! 

I find other people's highlighting and marginalia interesting, not necessarily distracting. I like being able to see what people are thinking as they read a text. It doesn't bother me one bit.

After having to hunt down the good people at Sussex to find out about my scholarship status, I finally received an answer. No funding.
 
So, I'm back for round two Fall 2014 and I've decided to concentrate on US schools this time. I'll settle for research trips or a nice post-doc in the UK. :-) I've got about six schools in mind, but I'll reveal those as app season draws near. I decided to take my time and finish my MA thesis this fall while I find a job to hold me over.

well, the long national nightmare is over - i got a funding offer from Temple, so barring something unforeseen, that's where I'll be come August.

DO participate in PAT because it has the potential to be personally rewarding and could aid in your professionalization as an historian.
 
DO NOT participate in PAT because you think it will help you get into grad school. It really won't help you in any meaningful way. 

I just received my rejection letter from UPenn, so now I can officially say that I will be attending Yale for my MA! Whew, what a long, drawn-out process!
 
I must say that I initially felt really disheartened and discouraged after being rejected from 3 out of the 4 schools I applied to this year. Did anyone else feel like there was something academically wrong with them? Thankfully, I understand that I should not take rejection letters so personally as there are a plethora of reasons--aside from academic merit--for rejections. 
 
Anyway, I am thankful to have joined some of the discussions on the forum and I wish everyone the best of success!! 

Great news! I'm glad you've decided. Congratulations! And bonus, now there's a spot open at UCSB (from whom I still have not heard - sigh.) Enjoy Arizona   

Hey guys, got my second fully funded acceptance (but neither are in History.) All results are in.

Decision made.  I considered the possibility of funding, my comfort level with the POI (who has been nothing but supportive and kind to me), the cost of living, and yes, the prestige factor. York is absolutely nothing to sneeze at, and what's not to say I won't have a fair chance at a post doc at Oxford down the road?   I am so relieved this is all over.
 
Defended my thesis Tuesday, submitted to the grad school Friday, paid grad fees Friday afternoon.  It's over.  It's all over. 
 
And now I play video games to make up for lost time since last summer XD

After careful analysis of the board through past years  (yes, I actually did this) and UCSB's calendar, it looks like decisions should go out by this Thursday. According to the board postings there haven't ever been decisions past March 23 - and since they are in the midst of finals, their quarter ending on March 22, with an administrative holiday on the 23rd, I would think they would get decisions out before they go on break. 
 
That's my guess - but because I think I figured this out, they'll probably change it up. Let's hope they don't and that I'm right!

I'm a MA student at 35 and will (hopefully) enter a PhD program at 36. I agree with the other posters - I have a different perspective and experience only age brings. I don't take myself too seriously. And I absolutely love being able to learn from both older and younger colleagues. Congrats, HeatherC on moving forward on your educational journey

I had a very pleasant and quick conclusion to the program search today. I've decided on University of Washington. 
 
Again, congrats to everyone who has made their decisions and the warmest, best wishes to anyone still waiting. I'll probably stick around here though, at least for a while, due to the good company.

Having a single acceptance but no funding offer yet is terrifying. I want to get excited but also don't want to get my hopes up...

Finally some news!! Accepted to the University of Sussex!!   - They are one of my top three due in part to their awesome overseas scholarship that covers both tuition and living expenses! Keeping my fingers crossed. 
 
At least another one down. 3 more to go!  

I'm sick today - all sinus pressure and gunk - and it's making me extremely irritable. I want decisions and I want them now! Come on people - how hard is it to say "yes" or "no?"
 
Sorry, I'm ready for this all to be over. My current acceptances are wonderful, but they are only going to happen if I get scholarships and loans.

Still waiting on four universities... I keep telling myself I will write the DGS, but then I notice on the board that some of these schools notified well into March, and even April, and I restrain myself. It should be any day now (this is the chant I have going in my head). I've only just turned in apps for scholarships to St Andrews and Nottingham. Thankfully, those are the only two universities that required a separate app for scholarships.
 
I'm ready for some decisions, please!!
 
P.S. annieca - Your nana would have wanted your inheritance to go to something that would make you happy. Know that because of her you'll be in a better place financially. 

The worst is getting unofficial notification that you've been accepted, and knowing that is the school you want to attend but waiting for official notification to come via email/postal so you can actually accept (hoping it was not a mistake, hah).

Funding decisions - that's what's stopping me, at least. I have no idea what kind of scholarships I may or may not get since those apps were just due last week. And even with those scholarships, those schools to which I've been accepted only cover tuition and not living expenses. 
 
The remaining schools on my list all have better scholarship options or funding. Sure, I can make a decision now and I have in my head, but I can't move forward with the necessary to-do-list (like polaromonas I'm international as well), until the money issue is sorted.
 
Thus, I feel like I'm in some sort of grad school admissions purgatory until other schools notify.

Research......I love delving into old, dusty archives in a dim-lit room, amid the mists of the past.

It's most likely not about you.  It's a combination of everybody else and the small amount of spots available.  There aren't enough chairs for everyone that wants a seat.  There are going to be more people standing up than sitting down.
 
Thanks for the information on emailing DGSs ya'll.  I kept it polite and did not pester.  I ended with "Could you hurry the f**k up already," but the smiley face after clearly indicated I was joking.  Oh wait, I forgot the smiley face.

Someone above compared this to a marathon. I'd say it's kind of like that, but right before the finish line all the spectators tackle you and kick you a lot.
