Hi everyone! I’m in a bit of a situation - I’m currently taking 3 courses at Athabasca university and I won’t be able to finish the courses by end of May to get the final grades on my transcript and sent to grad schools by their deadline of June 30. I was wondering if anyone knows if grad schools are possibly lenient with when they receive transcripts with final grades for courses in progress? Like if I gave them my transcript one month late would it cause them to retract my acceptance or would they be ok with it ? If anyone has experience let me know! I’d really appreciate it ?

I'm sure it depends on the school, but I won't be finished with some summer courses until August and UOttawa just needs the final transcript by I think August 31st. Do other programs need them sooner?

  2. @SLPPLS101 I applied to several American schools just in case and thankfully have heard back from all of them and got into a couple pretty competitive programs! If I don't get in to one of the Canadian schools I applied to, I'll likely go to the states. However, I'd obviously prefer staying in Canada if I can because of the cost would be much lower. Friday can't come soon enough. ?

You're welcome! I just spoke to a 2021 UofT SLP graduate and she said it was just one cohort. Maybe some current UofT SLP students could shed some light on the learning experience with 60 students in a class because that does seem like a large class but also not unbearable.

Does anyone know the Western University class size for SLP? (I know they accept 50 people, but wondering if classes get split into two groups of 25?)

Would love to know others' experiences as well!

UofT stated on this website: https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-toronto/#slp that they will admit 60 students to SLP for 2022.

Also on this website: https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-program-requirements/#toronto It says there were 337 applicants for UofTs SLP program last application cycle.

You can also find information for Western and other ontario rehabilitation science programs using those links :)

Thank you for the info! Do you know about how big class sizes are? My thought is just because they admit 60 that might not necessarily mean that class sizes are 60 (maybe they have two sections for each class, to make it 30 ish students per class, for example). 60 seems like a lot to me...

  5. Hi guys, so I decided to apply to Western at the last minute on top of other apps, and was planning on having an SLP I observed submit a letter of reference for the "professional letter". However, now I see online that they don't want a clinical reference... Does anyone have any insight? Do you think I can still have her be the professional reference?

I spoke with Winnie back in February, and she said that it's a government mandate in BC that 90% of admitted students have to be BC, Yukon, or NWT, or Nunavut residents.

Wow... that's such a huge percentage. Not even sure if it's worth it then to apply out of province. ?

I have taken AUDI 402 and this is just my own opinion but that course is so much material! Just endless text/readings. There aren't lectures so it can be hard to narrow down important concepts for testing. It is almost unmanageable if you are in any other classes. I would recommend taking your basic anatomy before attempting AUDI at UBC.

I'm still trying to figure out if it's possible to wait to take AUDI 402 until getting accepted to UBC, should I apply next year (don't really want to waste my time and money on such a specific course unless I'm accepted), but again I've tried contacting UBC to ask them a lot of questions about their program but they just don't respond. ?

Have you already taken AUDI 402 through UBC? I'd assume that would cover the neuroanatomy for UA and UDEM, but not sure. It's online course but not self-paced. Beyond that, I'm less sure, although I think some schools are offering courses online this summer before a hopeful return to campus in the fall, so it may be worth looking into becoming a non-degree or unclassified student somewhere to see if you could take courses there. Good luck!!

I haven't, but I've tried contacting UBC several times over the past year or so with no luck. They just don't answer, it's quite frustrating. Yeah, I might do that at this point. Thank you!

Hello! What school do you want to apply to/which courses do you still need?

I'm still trying to decide what schools I'll want to apply to, but for UBC I would need: a phonology course, speech science course, cognitive psych or psycholinguistics course. For U of A I would need a cognitive psych course and a neuroanatomy or neuropsychology course. For a couple schools I need a human anatomy and physiology course (U of T, Western, etc). For UDEM I would a course in human development (adult / adolescent / old age). Might also need a neuroscience course for UDEM.

  10. Hi guys, I still have some prerequisites I'll have to get done if I apply next year as well. Just trying to plan out my next year or so, but have had trouble finding all the prerequisite courses online. Have any of you taken prereqs online and if so, where did you take them? I'm currently taking two from Athabasca, but they don't have all the courses I need and honestly I prefer less of an independent study method and more of a structured course with a professor online.
