  1. Hi everyone!! I remember how stressful applying to my MSW was last year and just want to say you are almost at the finish line :) Thought I would share my perspective of the process. I find that it's really difficult to say which schools are more "competitive" simply because each school looks for something different in candidates and it's hard to really tell what each school looks for. I had little confidence in myself while applying for schools, I had about 2000hrs of direct experience in children's mental health and employment services, an 84% average, and some research experience as I wrote an undergraduate thesis. I applied for Windsor, Laurier, and UofT as well as Lakehead's 1-year BSW program. I was accepted into lakehead, but waitlisted for all 3 MSW programs. I was accepted off the waitlist for Windsor in May and very surprisingly, I was accepted off of UofT's program a week before classes started. I am now attending UofT and I am loving the program.

My main point is to not doubt yourself! You don't have to have the most hours of experience or the highest grades, but it's how you relate your experience to social work. Don't be afraid to show off who you are! I remember not wanting to come off ignorant, but it is important to be confident in your personal statement.

Wish you all the best of luck!

Nothing for me. I’ve been wondering the same thing. Would anybody be willing to share whether they’ll accept or decline and to which campus?

Also wondering if anybody knows if there were more than usual applications this year? I thought I read somewhere on the MSW forum it was the case with MSW applications?

    Good luck!?

I have accepted my offer to the Orillia campus. I am on 3 MSW waitlists so if I happen to get accepted prior to july I would withdrawal my acceptance!

Me either. It is really frustrating to sit back and watch everyone else hear, either way. I just want to know, regardless of whether I'm rejected or accepted. The waiting game is awful.

I know, last week I was one of the last to hear about UofT so it sucks that it's happening again lol

Apparently when you click on your application where you see all of your documents, all of that disappears and it says congratulations

Yes, I was accepted into another Laurier program and that is what happens, along with an option to accept or decline your offer.

Guys.. I just received an email:

"Congratulations - you have been offered admission to Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, and we congratulate you on achieving this next step in your educational goals. Laurier offers a unique graduate experience, including the opportunity to pursue research and scholarly interests in a personalized environment that fosters a high standard of academic excellence."

I was honestly surprised that they sent out my OGS rejection last week before my acceptance, I thought they would send it out the opposite way. But anyway, I am still pretty lucky to have gotten into the program! For those of you wondering, my last name starts with a C so it's probably going alphabetically.

U of T is my first choice but I was waitlisted there. Does anyone have insight on Laurier's program compared to U of T?? Is it more or less clinically based or social justice oriented?

Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your work experience?

    Hey everyone! long-time lurker here.

I got waitlisted for U of T yesterday for the second year in a row. I'm a little disappointed because it was my first choice, but I've been accepted to Carleton's 2-year program, and yesterday was also accepted off the UWindsor waitlist.

Wondering if anyone is attending these programs or has some insight on them? I am leaning towards Carleton, but would love to hear about any experiences or feedback on both.

Thanks in advance & sending hugs to everyone going through this wild grad school process :)

Congratulations! From what I know, Windsor is more general whereas Carleton has more specializations! So I think it depends on what you want out of your degree. Also before you got off the waitlist from Windsor, did your process date change?

I'm heartbroken, I can't believe they're going to let the rest of us who haven't heard agonize over this all weekend, just to most likely receive a rejection. I can't see any good news coming out after tonight. not very hopeful, thanks for the best wishes

I feel the exact same way. It's very frustrating, I also don't get it because they did send out some rejections already, so why not just send out them all.

I was considering doing a 1 year BSW but I don't have the money to go away from home which is something I'd have to do as the 1 year BSW is offered quite far from where I live.

Yeah, it sucks that the post-degree bsw's in the GTA are two years, it makes it very difficult. My fingers are crossed for you that you will get off the waitlist!

Last name O. Still no update. Curious, when did we hear of the last acceptance? Did they stop coming out this AM? And has anyone heard anything this evening? Or do we think they are done for the night/maybe even the weekend?

I haven't heard anything yet either. My last name starts with an S. I really wish they let us all know tonight, it's so stressful.

I have. I've had a professor from a different faculty look it over. He teaches at UofT himself, he said himself I have a solid application so I'm not sure what I'm missing at this point. I know my GPA isn't the greatest being at 3.7 but I've seen others get in with lower. I'm really at a loss

Have you thought about applying for a post-bsw and then doing an advanced msw?
