Still no word from LSU, UNM, University of Houston, University of Florida, Florida State, or Oklahoma State. Portals all still say under review. This application process is brutal.

Heya, I'm also applying to Houston, Florida State, and Oklahoma State, and it's been crickets for me.
Also on my list is WSU, UNLV, USC, U of U, all with absolutely no responses.
I'll let you know if I hear anything, but I'm assuming I'm on SOME form of waitlist for most of them (if not in the "we've rejected you but haven't told you yet" pool).

When I was deciding whether to accept two unfunded + one partially funded offer, I made a spreadsheet calculating the total cost of the degree for both schools. I added up the tuition and estimated living expenses for each city. Then I looked at a loan calculator (this is a simple, decent one) to see how my monthly payments would look post-graduation. I'd recommend doing something similar so you have a full picture of what you're getting into.
Personally, after doing all that, I chose to reapply. I wasn't comfortable taking on debt in this job market. My outlook is that if you're good enough to get in unfunded, you'll probably be good enough for funding next year (assuming you're working hard on your portfolio while you wait).

Amen to that. I will say though in my email from Lindsay Bernal, she DID say they were experiencing delays because of a newly implemented portal (or portal changes). So @FairleyAlfy it might also be an error, but I wouldn't worry one way or another. Clearly we're getting notified soon, for better or worse!

Honestly as someone who is in the same boat as you, I'm not speculating a THING until I have a yes or no XD hop on the ignorance train with me, we've got complementary snacks

I'm not a vet, but I'll speak to miracles. From watching trends on here and from having friends in the same boat, sometimes people are on wait lists and get in as late as April. When you've heard nothing, you could be at the top of a waitlist or the bottom of one, you just have no way of knowing. And you also have no way of knowing if your school has even sent out all their acceptances yet (unless you email them or they send some info out which states that, of course).
I know it's hard. Trust me, I know. And you should definitely steel yourself for the possibility that it won't work out this year. This has been an awful cycle for applicants.
But really, until you have an actual "NO" in your inbox/portal, you cannot know for certain that you're not in. It's not over until it's over. Keep your chin up, and see what happens. It's easier to feel closure when you get that actual "no", so don't feel like you need to have some sort of closure before then, alright?
As far as this being your first cycle, think of it this way. The average age for an author to publish their debut novel is 35. Most authors try (and fail) to publish at least 3 different books before they manage to publish a debut. Even for accepted authors, only around 3% of literary agents will actually say yes to the book.
In short, writing is a field of constant rejection. My advice? It's never too late. Keep trying. All the rejection in the world can't tarnish the shine of that beautiful acceptance that you will no doubt receive if you continue working on it.
I hope some of that is helpful! I'm in a similar boat to you, this is my first cycle, so take my words with as many grains of salt as you'd like. But as someone who has been rejected so, so many times in my professional endeavors, I speak from experience.

    1) Keep in mind that even if you don't reach your goal, you still had some sucess; Temple is a very well-respected program! You should feel proud of that acceptance, whether you get funding or not. I know that it's not the ideal result, but it's encouraging if you choose to apply again.
    2) Keep in mind that this was a way harder year than average, and MFA acceptance rates were cutthroat before that.
    3) In the year between my first and second app cycles, I worked an admin assistant job. Boring and not glamorous, but it gave me a lot of time to work on writing. It was a challenging year, but not a bad one overall.

Hello out there. Looks like this thread has been abandoned for a couple of years, but ASU is on the top of my list right now, so I wanted to see if anyone could help me revive the conversation.
I'll be moving to Tempe from the Midwest, but I love the heat. (It is my goal in life to never experience another Missouri winter.) I'm a nontraditional student and have no interest in partying or clubbing. I will be bringing a vehicle but prefer to walk/bike to class if possible. The $720 parking permit mentioned above is frightening--does anyone know anything about that? Roommates are okay if necessary, as long as I have my own bathroom, and of course, I'd like to be able to pay lower rent if possible. I'm not opposed to university housing and, from what I can see on the internet, I like 922 Place so far. Anyone have any feedback/suggestions/etc?

A professor of mine once gave all of us students as sophomores in college the job of editing a poem “submitted to the school lit magazine.” It was a little known Yeats poem, and we eviscerated it. The week prior we had just voted Yeats as eminently worthwhile.
That is to say, sometimes writing hits different depending on its context, and I agree: keep writing!!!

I can't believe this, but I just got my first acceptance. I got an email from the University of Maryland, with details of TAship. I am so happy. My heart is pounding its way out of my chest right now. I'm shaking and crying, and my heart won't stop pounding. I can't believe it happened. I am so overjoyed, I can barely type, or move, or breathe. I am so happy. It feels unreal.

You were clear, maybe I wasn't. I didnt think you were trying to submit a new story, but you would still be asking them to consider new information. My opinion, one mostly bewildered applicant to another, is that it wouldn't help and could possibly harm you.
Btw - if I were to do this process again, I would absolutely make a website for my writing and link to it on my CV. Because ad coms absolutely do Google top contenders/visit their websites, and that's a convenient way to get them to possibly consider new info without actually asking them to consider new info, if you catch my drift -- you could just add the news to your website and hope they see it.

AWP was this past week though, and I'm sure most programs/faculty were involved in some way, as presenters, panelists, or attendees (or some combination of the above). They may have taken the week off from notifying so they could focus on AWP.

Late last night a lit mag emailed me that one of my flash stories they had nominated was accepted into “Best Small Fictions” for 2021. Now I’m wondering whether I should let programs I haven’t heard back from know. Is this bad etiquette?

Yup. Waiting on seven! A couple of these have notes in Results, but if I haven't received an explicit rejection via email or portal, I'm still holding out hope.
