  1. CONGRATS!!!! @turnipgreenhave you checked your snail mail? I believe they sent out rejections and waitlists that way and have called all accepted applicants. Good luck on the Hollins wait list, maybe we'll be cohort buddies in the fall
  2. Ha, I know, right? I was burnt. The students I've talked to have said that the workload is manageable but heavy, so maybe they really are just slammed. One said she got workshopped 8-9 times last semester while her friends at other programs typically got workshopped 2-3 times. But the atmosphere is apparently much more collaborative than competitive, and the program has a huge range of ages, backgrounds, and personalities, which is super exciting to hear
  3. I asked Hollins whether I could talk to students a couple weeks ago when I was still on the waitlist. They said the MFA students were too busy with their work/writing/lives to talk to waitlisted applicants and that they would only communicate with accepted applicants. (Kinda felt like shit to hear, but I begrudgingly understood, lol.) This might be different at other schools
  4. I just accepted my spot at Hollins Much love to everyone on this thread!!!
  5. Thank you!!! Just saw your comment haha. I'm thinking I will. Definitely feels like it’s time to move into a new phase of my life!
  6. Thank you both!!! @retrotypingAhhh that would be so awesome if we both ended up there!
  7. Typo: don’t quit BEFORE the miracle happens! Ahhh I am brain dead lol
  8. Okay uhhhhhh…I just got accepted off the waitlist at Hollins, full funding, whole shebang????? I’m in shock to be honest. Seriously haven’t even processed this at ALL. I got the email as I was on the phone with my big sister — I was telling her that I was pretty much at peace about not going to an MFA this fall / that I wasn’t expecting to switch jobs or really do anything big any time soon. The MOMENT those words left my mouth, I got the acceptance email. As we say in AA, don’t quit until the miracle happens WOW
  9. This is an awesome approach Hopefully I'll be able to rally like you have!
  10. Personal statements always feel like the most baffling piece of the puzzle for me...I never know what to say. I always end up feeling like a kissass. Props to you for getting going on it already. I swear, next time I apply I'm barely even going to bother editing my stuff. Clearly it hasn't served me to agonize over which angle or tack might sit right with the adcoms. They'll get what they get, lol.
  11. Might be jumping the gun a bit, but I've started a thread for next year's application cycle: Don't know about you all, but I'm hoping to distract myself from the rejection sadness by doing some new writing and getting excited for future possibilities. DM me on here if you want to get added to the workshop spreadsheet. Congrats to all who have gotten in so far!
  12. For those of us who plan to apply for a Creative Writing MFA in 2022 (start date 2023)! I saw that last year's thread was created around this time, so I thought I would drum one up.
  13. Thank you for the info!!! Now I can brace myself more haha
  14. Ah maybe they already have notified then! Thanks @Nightwitch
  15. Yes that's the one! It does seem like they're late this year. Maybe they had more applicants than usual. (Sweating...)
  16. Hahaha the speculation is so real. Gotta occupy the waiting time somehow. Has anyone on Draft posted anything about UNM?
  17. Thank you! Honestly I don't know how I even managed to apply this year at all, ha. I still have three places to hear back from (NYU, Iowa, and UNM), though I'm assuming rejections from NYU and Iowa. UNM hasn't begun notifying yet to my knowledge, so it's my last real wild card.
  18. Ran out of reactions, but thank you all so much for the congrats!!! Fingers crossed, though even if I did get off the list, I wouldn't be able to go unless I were granted funding/a stipend. (And I doubt people accepted off their waitlist are first in line for funding!) In any case I'm just so relieved to have gotten SOME positive feedback, huge vote of confidence for if/when I reapply
  19. I would love to read it if you have a link to the publication!! How cool. And your attitude about everything is great, I admire that. Congrats on Alaska, it sounds like that will be a perfect fit. Still waiting on UNM, my (sort of) final hope, lol. I'm not really holding out though. Already kind of making plans to move to Charlottesville at the end of 2022/early 2023. They sent me an email yesterday and almost gave me a heart attack but it was just about a missing transcript, ha. They mentioned that they'll be notifying everyone by April 15th (?! seems pretty late, given the 15th is FINAL decision date, but what do I know.) I saw that they notify for fiction sometimes as late as April 8th, so who knows.
  20. I'm "out of reactions" again (?!) but wanted to say a huge CONGRATS to everyone!!! So awesome to see so many acceptances and waitlists, especially for people who are reapplying for the second or third time. You all give me hope that I may have better luck next cycle. And @koechophe, that is extra awesome about your story Honored to have workshopped it, and super proud of you for getting in!!!
  21. Yes, keep the hope alive, haha! Honestly I don't know why I applied to NYU, even if I did get in I wouldn't go. I don't have the stamina to live in the city anymore. In-unit washer and dryer have spoiled me at my current place. Draft is a Facebook group where people can post creative writing MFA results, ask questions, find roommates, etc. I think if you look up MFA Draft 2022 on FB it'll pop up. Though I've heard it takes a while to get admitted to the group since the admins have to sift through and approve so many requests.
  22. Thank you for those kind words, really. It actually helps to hear! I also need to remind myself that I (somehow) put together all of my applications in my first 60 days sober, so I'm sure I'll do better next time with a clearer head. Third time will (maybe) be the charm. Yes re: luck and numbers! I have a friend in AA who sat on admissions committees and he said that while quality is of course a factor, the nitty gritty admissions decisions are really very arbitrary.
  23. Thank you!! I love your faith in me, haha, but it just looks like I won’t be going to school this fall. I applied to Hollins, UNM, UVA, Cornell, University of Michigan, Iowa, NYU. Rejected from University of Michigan and Cornell, and likely rejected from Iowa, NYU, and Hollins, since they already have started notifying their fiction admits and tend to do so within a few days or a week max. Speak of the devil…my UVA rejection just hit the inbox Pretty bummed, if unsurprised. It was my first choice. UNM looks like the only program I may have a shot at, though I’m thinking I’ll try to move to Charlottesville at the end of this year/early 2023 regardless of whether I reapply or get in anywhere. Would like to be close to family, and then I can just reapply to UVA again when I feel like it.
