So... the season of "freaking out" has begun. Just like retail stores' Christmas decorations and mall kiosks peddling Halloween costumes, the great-grad-freak-out seems to arrive earlier and earlier each season!

    Love it!

The PCA/ACA conference held in San Antonio, TX from April 19th - April 24th is on the horizon. I am personally very excited to get out of this state where it is a high of 75 degrees one day and 45 the next and snow predicted for the weekend (WTF?), and trade it in for some sun and some awesome presentations. So, a few questions to get us started: who is going? when are your presentations? what is your topic of interest? what is the title of your paper? etc. etc.

I'll start: I am presenting on Friday morning, April 22nd at 9:45 am @ RC-Bd Rm 530; Arab Culture in the US Panel; Session Chair: Lufti Hussein. My presentation explores the composite of the terrorist figure in Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner," as a dehistoricized amalgamation of different ethnicities and races (as Jaspir K. Puar's "monster-terrorist-fag"), while exploring this text as a location for merging Asian American and Arab American Studies.

Thanks everyone for replying, and I hope all of us get a chance to meet in person. Good luck!

Why not? I am not being glib or fatuous. I am very sincere because I do not think that statement is true; and if it is, then it is very sad.

Agreed (more chiming!). I'm 31. I didn't start my English coursework until 2007. My BA is from 2002 in Marketing (long story about opting for the more "practical" education, but only learning later that life is to short for an education that doesn't inspire you). My MA program has an age range of those just out of their BA's and some in their mid-30's just going on to PhD work. When there is constant discourse about raising the retirement age, it makes one think about doing what you want and what you need for the next 40 years...

Congratulations ElectedSilence! I was fine before, but now I'm freakin' out! But it is nice to know that NW is on top of things. NW is an awesome school. Good luck!

I haven't received any email or letter either Gingermick. Neither does my app status say anything. I bolted to the mailbox though today after reading this post. Unfortunately the only thing in there was my Netflix DVD.

The waiting is the hardest part... actually, screw that! the application was the hardest part!
