Just show up to BC on the start date with your mailbox and inbox exploding, assuming full funding. Maybe they'd feel so bad for us that they'd accept us even if we had been rejected. (The weird face is for Valentine's Day).

Um, it does come off as a direct criticism, and I don't think by accident. I was just passing along the advice I received from a professor--this isn't something I completely made up by myself as an uninformed potential student. Obviously you are entitled to disagree with that advice...but I don't really appreciate the tone. Plus, as someone who used to be the person who received those emails (I answered my department's generic grad email address), I had no problem at all giving nervous prospective students some peace of mind, nor did the "secretary," (ahem, talk about making allies...I don't think many graduate program/department coordinators appreciate this antiquated title). In fact, the students who kept in touch with her, even about decision progress, were the ones she looked out for the most. Anyway, my mentor didn't say I should nag professors about when they'll finish already, but that I should email the graduate program coordinators just to see if they had an idea about where they were in the process. I apologize for that lack of clarity, but even without I think your reaction was, uh, harsh.

OMG! That is genius strategy! I'm surprised all the schools don't do this. Imagine how happy all their admits would be! Not to mention, people wouldn't keep calling them in February to ask when decisions would be finalized.

I have alot of friends in Germany that think all of America is like living in New York as shown on TV. Friends, Sex in the City, all that. New York is nothing like it looks on TV.

Boston really is just like onTV, though -- especially the law firms.

Yeah, many people who get accepted to one get accepted to several. And while you think you know what your first, second, third choice would be, it's too big a decision not to go visit, talk to other grad students, meet potential advisors. I wouldn't expect anyone to accept before they did all this and before all their outstanding applications were officially accepted or rejected. Not to mention, the person admitted to your dream program, might be waitlisted at their dream program, so they are waiting on other people's decision before they can make theirs and you can make yours.

How is it that I get rejected from CUNY but Michael Costello is moving on another week on Project Runway All-Stars. The Universe makes no sense.

Why must David Richter be so pro-active and organized? Why did he have to brake the seal hours before anyone else was ready to notifiy

Um, so I just got a voicemail from the writing department asking me to set up an interview for a teaching assistantship... so... does this mean I got accepted??? I mean, if I'm 3/3 at this point my head is going to explode.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm happy for everyone who has gotten in somewhere. I know it has to be extremely relieving and exciting and awesome and life changing. I'm really hoping I can join you guys in the festivities of awesomeness. I do have schools that seem to decision later. None of these applications were due in December, so I haven't been waiting as long since submission. Hope is still alive, but it just sucks when all these schools are reporting and all I can do is think about the possibility of across the board rejections, again.

Grunty, I have had six schools notifying people with no word for me (before this afternoon). I know it sucks, but hang in there!

If you want classic evidence of that, my subject test score is 530. That is proof that it doesn't mean anything.

    Wow, thank you for this.

For what it's worth, CUNY said they will send early notifications out this week, and then proceed to intermittently release notifications until mid-March.

I know. This is the only downside at CUNY. Keeping it going for 5-6 years or 7 or 8 is an exhausting prospect. It's the only think keeping CUNY from being my #1 choice. Exhausting as the proposition of a working PhD would be, I'm sure whomever manages to finish their PhDs are like full service combat PhDs.

"Haha... that's a lot of money!" At the registrar's office at my university, as I was writing a check to them so they would send my transcripts. I know it's a lot of money. You're the ones charging me for it. Thanks for the reminder though.

It was me. David Richter emailed me individually as we're both 18th centuryists. This leads me to think they are deciding period by period, so don't fret yet!
