    "Dear University,

Thank you for the offer of admission, as well as seeing potential in my application. However I have decided to accept an offer of admission from Clown College.

    Thank you again."

Bam. You aren't breaking up with super emo exes for goodness sake.

. . .my goodness has it come to this?  Any applicant would be lucky to get into any of those schools.

ANDS! got a reaction from LizKay in "The top schools only really look at 3.9+ GPA, anything lower is a serious disadvantage"
These threads always make me laugh. Usually ends up with someone saying One Thing determines a grad applicants success, and then someone else comes along and says "Nope. . .its the Other Thing" that is the true measure. For what its worth I was rocking a 3.7 GPA from a pretty no-name State University (in a state that does not lack for private universities), and was accepted into a top 10 program, and three top 20 programs out of 10 applications. There are a myriad of factors that will determine a persons success; a blanket "This is what one needs" ignores the needs of the program and university of interest.

I just want to say, if you look at the thread title from the front page it says:

    "my phd-advisor stole my man"

I have nothing else to contribute to this conversation.

I would go easy on the emails; they are likely being bombarded by similar emails to yours. If it says your application has been reviewed and is being reviewed - I would imagine it is. Give it time, a watched pot doesn't boil.

I spent weeks looking for a job, but recently have decided "Screw it. . .I'm going to just veg out the next couple of months." Moving in with family, and will probably find a place to volunteer or maybe take a prepatory class.

    R.  So much more robust, and you'll seem (to others) smarter for it.  If you want a GUI, get RStudio.

Buckhead is the farthest from campus of the neighborhoods mentioned and is not where any graduate student should be living.  If you want to play there - by all means.  Living there?  No way.    Most grads, seem to default to Campus Crossings - or a related complex - around Emory (if you are Emory bound).  There are however, no shortage of roommate situations one can pursue on Craigslist that will take them away from the university, so that they have an actual incentive to discover the city.   If you are going to Georgia Tech, you might be tempted to venture to the West of the freeway to live. . .don't.  I would suggest something close to the East/West train line or the border between Midtown and Virginia Highlands.   GSU folks can really live anywhere on a bus line as the train has a Georgia State stop.

Where have you seen this enumerated; I would be very curious.

And it has nothing to do with disrespect/respect so lets please not get into histrionics on this issue. There is ZERO credible reason an instructor has to not allowing his or her course to be recorded by a student for private/personal use and as a study aid.

They can take the matter as "seriously" as they want; at maximum we get to have a discussion about protected intellectual property and allowable reproductions of - garauntee the student comes out on the winning end of that conversation.

ANDS! got a reaction from Microburritology in how to respond to acceptance when waiting to hear from other schools?
As how much time you have to consider the offer, even if you know the answer.  It communicates indirectly that there is a need for more time and puts the impetus on them to ask why (at which point you can mention the other offers if you want).

At this point you are prestige chasing; never a good thing when you ALREADY have a good thing. If it is REALLY that important to you to say to your friends and family "Oh I went to an Ivy League", by all means pass on incredible offers from two incredible schools - but I wouldn't imagine many on this forum (least of all CS majors still waiting to hear from Top 50 schools) will be supporting your particular plan - pay for a masters at the lowest ranked of your options in the hopes it will make you competitive for Harvard or Princeton (or whomever it is youre lusting after).

#1 Tip: Stop thinking about age.  No one is going to look at you and think "Look at this old f***. . ."  You got in, same as them.  If you don't make age an issue, they (the proverbial they) aren't likely to either.

ANDS! got a reaction from kewz in Is Ivy League Grad as Prestigious as Ivy League Undergrad?
This is a pretty silly dismisal to make. The Ivy League schools (and their counterparts in the UK) are considered "super brands" in terms of their research/output. Not all Ivies are created equal, nor are they all represented in all disciplines. However it is a safe bet that should a person go to an Ivy, then the quality of their education will be pretty well known which translates to future professional success.

And I am laughing at the people ass hurt over the OP's concern; as if brand recognition is something that isn't (and should't be) on the minds of a grad student. Yes a lot of these posts come off as "Heading to Cambridge. . .what about YOU!?", but I'd say a fair bit of the negative backlash is a reflection on folks own insecurities about where they have ended up.

As for eating Ramen Noodles and canned tuna. . .no thanks.  Getting GOOD nutrition is an important part of making sure you don't crash and burn.  I eat Ramen Noodles when I'm feeling lazy and want a snack, never as a long term option.
